First Look: Thor: The Dark World Trailer [updated]

-

What a glorious wednesday! We get new comic books (on my way to get some right now) and now a full length (not teaser) Thor: The Dark World trailer that is full of information and most of all, Loki. Watch the trailer here and leave your thoughts in the comments. Scroll past the trailer for a few notes I’d love to share after you watch the complete trailer too.

The Dark World trailer is shaping up to get me really excited for Thor’s next outing. We’re going to see more of the 9 realms (if not more) and get Christopher Eccleston as the villain, which you can hear his voice around the 2/3 mark above. My initial assumption was that Loki wouldn’t play a large part in this film, but obviously he will be there along the way, including the Warriors 3 and Sif, who is taking a much more prominent role due to the presumed love triangle.

UPDATE: Around the 32 second mark, Loki is in his prison, but on the far side, we see more prisoners that look unlike anything we’ve come across yet. My hopes are Badoon (Guardians of the Galaxy reference) to help explore the other races in the cosmic universe, but they could also just be other Asgardians. This is a prison built by Thor’s great-grandfather Buri,” producer Craig Kyle explained to Empire magazine of the shot above. “While the exterior still feels very ancient and stone, the inside of these chambers have been upgraded to hold in new creatures and beasts. Across the way [from Loki], you see Marauders [rag-tag invaders of the Nine Realms] and demons.

Lastly, the trailer ends on a comedic, yet visually stunning treat, a Kronan. Kronans showed up in Journey into Mystery when Thor first appeared and made another prominent appearance during Planet Hulk/World War Hulk. They can also be fought in the Avengers Initiative mobile game (Android and iOS that severely needs an update to its roster, but ComicUI loves it anyway). They have the nickname Stone Men from Saturn, and that scene seems to be very Middle Earth/Game of Thrones looking, so we should see some spectacular battles.

If you see any tidbits or secrets we missed, please let us know asap!
