Just when we thought they couldn’t add any more mutants, an actor goes on and confirms that a younger version of an established mutant will appear in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. MTV caught up with actor Evan Jonigkeit at a premeire event for the TV show Girls, which is airing its 3rd season soon. He is quoted as saying, “It’s a really incredible thing to be a part of,” he said. “[‘Days of Future Past’] is huge and really exciting. I was so stoked to be working with all of these people. It was a really crazy experience.”
Those who have read Days of Future Past story from the X-Men comics, know that Toad is one of the few Brotherhood characters during that time frame. Albeit the story will be hugely different, the inclusion of the young character is a huge bonus for the film. Jonigkeit prepared for the role like most super hero actors do, “I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad,” he said. “X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool.” Nothing can replace Ray Park and his infamous exit from the series, but at least they’re trying. The actor also says we’ll be seeing a different look for the amphibious character, “The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that,” he said. “It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”
This is different mainly for two huge reasons. First it is the first Brotherhood mutant to make an appearance in the film (other than Mystique who is like the mutant version of Italy).Sabretooth has not been accounted for yet, however, with the X-Men Origins film muddling that up, we’re not sure if he’ll make an appearance or not. Secondly, this is one of the few mutants given a younger version of the established character, rather than a future version like we’re seeing a lot of. Mutants tend to be placed in the future in the film, fighting the good fight together.
