New Images from ALL HAIL THE KING Reveal Ben Kingsley

0

all hail the king ben kingsley trevor slattery the mandarin entertainment weekly

That was quick. Just a week after the Marvel One-Shot titled ALL HAIL THE KING was outed on the special features of the Thor: The Dark World blu-ray release, we have confirmation that the short film will star Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery again. From the images provided by Entertainment Weekly, we can surmise he has been incarcerated and will have to deal with prison life as a false terrorist, an actor among murderers.

Iron Man 3 screen writer Drew Pearce elaborated on his situation with Entertainment, “Imagine a real terrorist organization whose beliefs were long held and religious for thousands of years, and imagine a drunk, British actor coming along and essentially telling the world that he’s the face of your organization,” he says. “I think they would be right to be quite angry.” You can read more of his interview at Entertainment.

Take a look at the images below to see what the film will look like and let us know if you think the REAL Mandarin will make an appearance. All Hail The King is expected to release with the Thor: The Dark World blu-ray on February 25.

Amazing Spider-Man Will Return to Comics

1

Marvel’s Solicitations for March/April have unveiled that the Amazing Spider-Man will be returning to the comic books with Peter Parker in his own mind again with The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (701) in the All New Marvel NOW! series. This is exciting for a few reasons, first off, it will please a lot of annoyed fans. LOTS of annoyed fans.

If you haven’t been following comics for the past 12 months or just consciously chose to black it out, you may not be aware that the current Spider-Man in the comic books, is not in fact Peter Parker (technically). Yes, it is as confusing as it sounds. Last year, in the Amazing Spider-Man 700, Doctor Octopus is able to switch minds with Peter Parker/Spider-Man, unknowingly to anyone else. Ock’s body is too frail to live and he passes away. The Peter-Ock body decides to carry on the Spider-Man mantle for good and become the Superior Spider-Man (current title), trying to outdo Peter Parker in every way imaginable. At first this is a great idea, but has slowly lead to a destructive path where Otto is bound to be discovered at any second, due to detective skills and the rise of the Goblin Nation below the streets.

amazing spider-man all new marvel now 1 peter parker

Spider-Man has been removed as an Avenger as well, due to his erratic and malevolent nature, also polarizing his friends to enemies. This has occurred in his super hero life just as much as his personal life, as he now owns a technology company and is dating a little person. If I’ve lost you at this point, don’t worry, it is all about to be rectified this coming year. As I’ve noticed, most comic series rarely go above 35 issues in their series before it is canceled, and Superior Spider-Man seems to not be exempt from that rule. We’ll see around 32 or so books before the series is canceled and we get Peter back.

Secondly, the Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters this May. If the casual film goer likes the Amazing Spider-Man film, but is unable to find a copy of Amazing Spider-Man books on the shelves, why would they consider reading the comics? It has already become too convoluted at this point with nearly 5 versions of the character running around at once. You can find the Superior Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Girl (Anya Corazon), and Ultimate Spider-Man, which leads me to our big revelation.

Lastly, and probably the most subtle of wins, is that if Peter Parker is returning as the Amazing Spider-Man in his own series, then the Ultimate Marvel universe will not be sending Miles Morales over to replace Peter Parker, thus not needing the Ultimate Universe to end at all. This news comes along with Cataclysm #3 – The Ultimates Last Stand hitting shelves and showing Miles cross into the Mainstream Marvel Universe. Within the issue, Miles enters the universe with an evil Reed Richards and returns back to the Ultimate Universe within the same pages, this comes as no coincidence I’m sure. Speculation has been running high that Miles Morales would be THE definitive Spider-Man due to his popularity, but Marvel played their cards close to their chest and shut down that theory in one fell swoop today. Go Ultimate Universe, go!

Are you ready for The Amazing Spider-Man to return to the comics, or do you prefer the more Superior Spider-Man as it is?

Stan Lee to Star in Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

0

Stan Lee is a staple character in every Marvel film as of late (except X-Men: First Class) and it should be no surprise that he is scheduled to appear in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD tv show. Lee is actually a character who is an Agent of SHIELD in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series and does his daily duties as the high school janitor. In Season 2, he had an episode that feature him as a complete badass fighting the Lizard in the tunnels under the school.

As Stan hits his older age, I’m happy to see him taking a prominent role in the Marvel Universe. Sure, many people may not appreciate him as a person, but without Stan Lee, I’m not sure we’d have Marvel as we do today. Since Agents of SHIELD’s second half of season 1 premieres tonight on ABC, we may not get a hint at Lee’s role in his upcoming episode, but rumor is that he’ll be in the episode that airs on Feb 4. Needless to say, I’ll be tuning in for the show.

Do you think Stan needs more screen time or are his one-off cameos enough?

Edgar Wright Researches His ANT-MAN Character

0

In what could be deemed as a relatively boring blog post by Edgar Wright, he has given away which version of Ant-Man Paul Rudd will be playing in the 2015 film. Below is an image of the Ant-Man helmet from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Season 2, Episode “To Steal an Ant-Man” where the character of Scott Lang steals the Ant-Man suit from Hank Pym. This also opens up the doors to the Heroes for Hire, Luke Cage and Iron Fist who are getting their own VOD series through Netflix.

Edgar Wright titled his blog post as “Homework” which would imply that this episode and version of Ant-Man, Scott Lang, will be the main basis for the film. Lang steals the suit from the lab he’s working at, because his daughter is sick and he needs money to pay for her medical bills. This provides a heart warming story and a family oriented tale for the Marvel film. If you’re interested in seeing the episode, all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is available on Netflix for watching. The show is highly recommended by us.

Do you think Ant-Man will be Scott Lang instead of Hank Pym or perhaps a mix of the character stories? Let us know!

Actor Confirms Young Toad in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

0

Just when we thought they couldn’t add any more mutants, an actor goes on and confirms that a younger version of an established mutant will appear in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. MTV caught up with actor Evan Jonigkeit at a premeire event for the TV show Girls, which is airing its 3rd season soon. He is quoted as saying, “It’s a really incredible thing to be a part of,” he said. “[‘Days of Future Past’] is huge and really exciting. I was so stoked to be working with all of these people. It was a really crazy experience.”

Those who have read Days of Future Past story from the X-Men comics, know that Toad is one of the few Brotherhood characters during that time frame. Albeit the story will be hugely different, the inclusion of the young character is a huge bonus for the film. Jonigkeit prepared for the role like most super hero actors do, “I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad,” he said. “X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool.” Nothing can replace Ray Park and his infamous exit from the series, but at least they’re trying. The actor also says we’ll be seeing a different look for the amphibious character, “The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that,” he said. “It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”

This is different mainly for two huge reasons. First it is the first Brotherhood mutant to make an appearance in the film (other than Mystique who is like the mutant version of Italy).Sabretooth has not been accounted for yet, however, with the X-Men Origins film muddling that up, we’re not sure if he’ll make an appearance or not. Secondly, this is one of the few mutants given a younger version of the established character, rather than a future version like we’re seeing a lot of. Mutants tend to be placed in the future in the film, fighting the good fight together.

Marvel Greenlights AGENT CARTER TV Show

0

It looks like Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD ratings drop is actually leading Marvel to produce another television show by year’s end. Based on the Marvel One Shot that released with Iron Man 3, Agent Carter, played by Haley Atwell again, will reportedly follow the newly created SHIELD organization, fronted by Howard Stark (Tony’s father) and howling commando, Dum Dum Dugan. Set in the 1950’s, this could really build the Marvel universe in a way not yet seen, historically.

Rumor is that Atwell will be spending 6 months preparing for the series with filming underway by the end of 2014. This also is stated as being a big budget project, but does not mention if it will air on television or be another VOD project, much like the upcoming Defenders series.

Do you think Marvel needs another TV show, especially one placed in the 50s?

Marvel Digital Titles No Longer For Purchase

0

In an odd turn of events, it seems that the digital licenses of all Marvel titles on Steam, Playstation Network, and Xbox Live have been pulled as of 2014. This includes Marvel Vs Capcom titles, Spider-Man games, and the 6 month old Deadpool title. These have all been on sale via their respective digital stores for the past month, but no one knew exactly that they would abruptly disappear. Rumor is that physical copies of the games may not be in circulation much longer either. So buy up all that you can!

Activision has confirmed that all titles involving Deadpool, X-Men, and Spider-Man were effected, which contributes to most of the games that were available. Perhaps it is time for Marvel to consolidate down to one publishing studio for their games as well. What does this mean for the future of Marvel games? Probably something awesome, but until then I pour this out for my missing homies.

(UPDATED) Marvel One Shot for THOR: THE DARK WORLD Confirmed

0

UPDATE 2: The writer of Iron Man 3 has tweeted the title of the One Shot, fueling speculation that the short film will be involved to Iron Man 3’s “villain” in some way. I’m sticking with my Ben Kingsley/Mandarin related short film

https://twitter.com/mrdrewpearce/statuses/419138268240674816

UPDATE: Ok, after sitting on this and thinking all day, All Hail the King makes no sense for Ben Kingsley to return as the Mandarin…alone. He was not a king nor had that type of governing rule in China. However, it made me think back to a comment Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D’Esposito made this past summer regarding a Loki One Shot. He stated at the time, it was not cost effective to get that made and opted for the Agent Carter short. Since Thor was in production at the time, perhaps they could use those sets and props to finally get a Loki film made, thus the King reference alluded to at the end of The Dark World. If this is so, perhaps he could be endowing Trevor Slattery, a trickster of Midgard, with his own special powers, thus turning him into a true Mandarin for the Marvel Cinematic universe!

That or I’m completely off my rocker, you tell me.

ORIGINAL STORY: The BBFC has been working hard rating the extra features on the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray/DVD that is coming out on February 24. I’m more surprised at the release date for the film, 4 months from release date is pretty solid. However, in the extra feature list for the home release, we have been teased the title of the next Marvel One Shot. Aptly titled All Hail the King, we believe it may have something to do with the return of the Mandarin to the Marvel Universe, and perhaps not just the Trevor Slattery version, although Ben Kingsley has been strongly rumored to be returning for this small piece. I’m glad they’re choosing to revisit this controversial piece of Iron Man 3, rather than ignore it outright (like much of The Incredible Hulk).

The length also is about par with other, recent One Shots coming in at 13 minutes. Agent Carter was a spectacular piece of work that showcased how auxiliary characters can be used to expand upon the Marvel Universe and probably gives us a hint at how their Netflix shows will go down.

Are you ready for the King to return? Check out the other extra features that’ll come with the film below!

First Official GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Image

0

Disney has unveiled the first official image from Guardians of the Galaxy. We’ve seen this image before in concept art back at SDCC this year, and part of the leaked footage from that time as well.

James Gunn has responded to the unannounced image release to clarify some concerns that have arisen since the release, mostly about the unfinished effects from this early pre-visualization image. “Okay, so I suppose Disney released this still from Guardians of the Galaxy,” he commented. “It was featured in the San Diego Comicon trailer, and is an early (truthfully, quite unfinished – we’ve come a long way from here) look at Rocket and Groot, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax.”

Take a look at the Guardians of the Galaxy image and let us know if its everything you wanted.

MORE Captain America: The Winter Soldier Photos

0

Not to be outdone by Sony’s Electro photos yesterday, Marvel has decided to double down on the Captain America: The Winter Solider photos and release this second set. These photos seem to be taken from the movie and the trailer as well, as you’ll notice with the surprising odd quality of Anthony Mackie’s Falcon image below. Have some more peeks at Marvel’s next big film!
