Ring in 2014 with Microsoft and Xbox’s Games with Gold promotion! This month, they’re offering up two super solid games that I think everyone will/should enjoy, Sleeping Dogs and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. I’m personally excited for the promotion to continue as everyone with a Gold subscription (Xbox 360 only, the Xbox One will get their GwG games sometime later) gets 2 free games a month, sometimes with all the DLC.

New Electrifying Amazing Spider-Man 2 Photos

1

Captain America isn’t the only film to throw down some nice photos from their final cut today. Sony has released 2 photos from the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 film featuring Electro at their focus.

The first photo sees Electro in a cage of sorts, perhaps being recruited by Harry Osborne to get Spider-Man. My assumption is that he is in one of the numbered doors seen in the film trailer, as that gauge on his head was probably installed by OsCorp.

Secondly, we see Electro in action. This appears to be earlier in the film when Electro is feeling pretty blue (intended) due to the accident that grants him his power. Are you ready for the Amazing Spider-Man to swing into theaters this May?

Marvel Confirms Worst Kept Secret: Diesel is Groot

0

In what I’ll classify as the worst kept bit of news in the Marvel cinematic universe, Marvel has finally released the press release revealing the voice behind a central character in Guardians of the Galaxy. Vin Diesel, after many publicity stunts, will in fact be the voice of Groot, the ent like warrior who comprises 1/5 of the Guardian’s team. No one is surprised by this, but at the same time, Diesel does have at least one voice acting role in his repertoire, The Iron Giant.

Do you think the thespian will make a great Groot for the already star studded film?

[alert variation=”alert-info”]

Vin Diesel is Groot!

The star of the Fast and the Furious and Riddick franchises will lend his voice to Groot in Marvel’s live-action “Guardians of the Galaxy,” rounding out the team that includes Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista).

Featured in four of the six movies in the fan-favorite “Fast & Furious” franchise, Diesel has helped the series gross over $2 billion at the box office; and will reprise his role in “Fast & Furious 7.” Diesel’s most recent film, “Riddick,” the third film in the franchise that has so far earned a cumulative $267.3 million across the globe, debuted this year at the top of the box office. In addition to lending his voice to several video games, Diesel’s received great acclaim for his voice work in the celebrated animated film “The Iron Giant,” directed by Brad Bird.

In the far reaches of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an unlikely cast of characters including Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon must join forces to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. Directed by James Gunn, the live-action “Guardians of the Galaxy” will take fans to new corners of the Marvel Universe when it hits theaters August 1, 2014, but in the meantime stay tuned to Marvel.com for the latest news as it breaks, including official casting, first looks and more!

Rogue Cut From Days of Future Past

0

In what doesn’t really shock anybody, Anna Paquin’s one and only scene in the X-Men: Days of Future Past film as Rogue has been cut. Bryan Singer has stated the reason behind it with EW.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” Singer told EW. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.” Singer stated he told Paquin and “She completely understood.”

Anna Paquin was a main focus of the original trilogy and was one of the few returning characters that hasn’t been killed off unceremoniously yet. Hopefully this will help tighten up the film, rather than force feeding us unnecessary characters we are supposed to ‘care’ about.

Age of Ultron Will Have 2 Villains

0

We haven’t heard much out of the way of Avengers 2 plot news lately, but now Latino Review has word that we could be seeing another major Marvel villain grace the screen of the Age of Ultron film in 2015.

Rumor is that “there is a breakdown circulating in Hollywood where Marvel is looking for a PHYSICALLY IMPOSING MAN, age range 40-50, Caucasian, for a supporting role.” This is believed to be Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, from the Captain America comics. This news coming from El Mayimbe, this could be pure rumor or pure genius. At this point, the plot is very secret and we know little about the film. However, a few details help explain his presence.

Von Strucker is from the WWII era and a leader of HYDRA (Captain America reference) who has the ability to absorb life essence through an enchanted arm into himself. This provides eternal youth and some wicked powers. He’s a main villain in the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes show if you ever get a chance to watch the beginning episodes. He’s an underused character from the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby days in the 60’s, and a villain that could have a cool powerset.

Rumor has it, that the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver also work for him, doing his biddings and being evil minions. Perhaps this is how HYDRA is able to infiltrate the Avengers and tear them a new one. Since they can’t be mutants (Fox owns those rights), they could be introduced in this manner.  I also find this very meaningful, because Avengers 1 was very Thor based and Avengers 2 seems to be focusing on Tony Stark/Captain America’s films.

Who should they cast for the Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker? Perhaps Bryan Cranston should be rumored for the role, since everyone loves to cast him as everything.

Paul Rudd Sizes Up Ant-Man

2

Despite all the rumors and speculation this year, Marvel has finally locked in its choice for Ant-Man in 2015. Paul Rudd has been chosen to be the star of the film, most likely Hank Pym known as the super hero Ant-Man. One of the most obscure films from Marvel yet, right behind Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man will lead us into the Marvel Cinematic universe post Ultron in what will kick off Phase 3.

Rudd can be seen in Anchorman 2 right now and is considered loved by many people. Do you think they’ve made the right choice?

New Looks at Bishop and Mystique

0

X-Men: Days of Future Past keeps on dishing out the goodies and we have a few more peeks at the upcoming film. Here we can see Bishop with the mandatory huge, red gun in a dystopian setting and Mystique at a Vietnam war camp. What is interesting about the Mystique image, is that no one failed to notice that is Lucas Till as Havoc in the background. I have a feeling he won’t be a huge part of this upcoming film, but will have the obligatory scene to follow up where he is.

Have a look at these pics and let us know who your favorite X-Man from the film is!

Get an Advance Pack for Marvel Heroes

0

Marvel Heroes has been out for the majority of this year, and needless to say, it is still going strong. Recently, they’ve announced what is called the Advance Pack for the game. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal, but they’re adding 12 playable characters to the game. This is a pretty astounding increase of characters for a free to play game to add and make fully functional with the rest of the game.

Per the Marvel Heroes site, the characters being added are as follows: DOCTOR STRANGE, Sorcerer Supreme; JUGGERNAUT, the Unstoppable Force; MAGNETO, Master of Magnetism; MOON KNIGHT, the Fist of Khonshu; NIGHTCRAWLER, Master Swordsman, Fuzzy Elf; PSYLOCKE, the Psychic Ninja; SILVER SURFER, Herald of Galactus; SUE STORM, the Invisible Woman; STAR-LORD, Leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy; VENOM, the Lethal Protector; and TWO MORE unannounced characters.

These are quite the cast of Marvel Heroes to add, especially since some of them are known for being villains in the game as well. You can pick up the huge pack of characters in the Deluxe Pack for the price of $129.99, which includes a ton of in-game items and Ghost Rider as a bonus. Or the not as impressive Standard Pack for $99.99, which has some stuff but not all of the Deluxe features. Read on for the full details over at Marvel Heroes.com.

Marvel Heroes is currently FREE TO PLAY, available on PC and has a Mac open beta coming March 1. You can choose from the following playable characters: Black Panther, Black Widow, Cable, Captain America, Colossus, Cyclops, Daredevil, Deadpool, Emma Frost, Gambit, Hawkeye, Hulk, Human Torch, Iron Man, Jean Grey, Loki, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel, Nova, Punisher, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, Storm, Thing, Thor, and Wolverine.

Comic of the Week – 12/11/2013

0

Welcome back to Comic of the Week here at ComicUI! We’ve been a little behind on these due to technical limitations, but we’re coming back strong with a dual submission for the week of 12/11/2013!

Due to some conversation within ComicUI and valid points from both sides, we’re presenting two Comics of the Week this week, both spinning out of the Ultimate Universe’s Cataclysm event. We may be a bit biased towards this line occasionally, but for good reason. We love the Marvel Universe and always have, we especially don’t want to see it end.

Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Ultimates #2 Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Ultimates #2

Now this is a series that has continued to bring new things to the Ultimate Universe in its potentially dying time. We’re giving brand new, awesome takes on characters that currently exist in the 616 universe and a spotlight on the lesser knowns in the Ultimate Universe as well. We’re treated to the Gah Lak Tus infection in a small town full of cultists, lead by none other than a wicked version of MODOK who is headed for Reed Richard’s City of Tomorrow. Fialkov has been doing a wonderful job of tying in older stories in the UU to the current events and this is no exception. Fury’s Ultimate Avengers are the team here in charge of ridding the world of the Gah Lak Tus swarm that is converting everything it touches to a mindless, consuming creature. From Ultimate Hercules to Ultimate Ghost Rider, this is a series to watch that’s bringing surprise after surprise into an action packed scenario, without actually fighting Galactus.

On that note, I’m going to file a complaint with this story as well. Since the Ultimates 1 used the Hulk as a WMD to defeat the Chitauri invasion, the Hulk has been worthless in the Ultimate Universe. When a problem comes up that Tony Stark can’t outsmart, they send in the Hulk and this issue is no exception. We see the Bruce Banner thrown into this mess, only to wind up being converted to the other side. Again. This is a tactic that Hickman used in his Ultimate Comics Ultimates run, in which Reed Richards convinced him to join his side as well. This felt stale and hurts the story from being taken seriously.

Overall, being the second part in a 3 part series, this next issue has a lot of ground to cover and lots of magic to work if everyone’s going to make it out alive. If any series makes me feel like the Ultimate Universe is ending, it would be this one.

Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3

Exact opposite of the previous book, Cataclysm: UCM is the reason I feel the Ultimate Universe will survive. Brian Michael Bendis is very hit/miss on his content lately, especially dragging out events through too many books. I draw this equivalent to the older Dragon Ball Z episodes where there are 5 episodes of nothing for a few minutes of pay off. This book, however, really delivers on the content, bridging past instances in the Ultimate Universe with one of my favorite cliff-hanger endings in a long time.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man has been building up a different take on Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends story, that focuses on Miles (Spider-Man), Spider-Woman, Bombshell, Cloak and Dagger. Other than Spider-Woman, these are all relatively new characters in the Ultimate Universe and help portray Cataclysm through the eyes of people who have just obtained their powers and what they instinctively do. A stronger point of this issue, recalls back to other major events that have happened over the years, specifically Ultimatum and where people were during that time frame. The last page definitely brought forth an issue I didn’t

The art by David Marquez is not our traditional Sara Pichelli, but I won’t argue here. His images feel very Ultimate-y and hearken back to the Pichelli and Ultimate Comic Re-Launch era versions. Each page gives it an angle on the scene I’d not expect, especially with not one, but two web slingers in the book. Showing Cloak and Dagger in front of Galactus’ eye is a pretty cool image too, since his eyes are so haunting and full of, not life.

This issue also isn’t perfect, as well, being just a typical Spider-Man story. There isn’t a lot of action or real threats, other than just emotional consequences. A random person is killed by a car in front of Bombshell, a friend of hers, but we don’t see anything other than a quick shot of vengeance for it. It doesn’t bring a lot of excitement to the story to keep you turning the page.

I’m more excited for Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3 than any other Cataclysm mini series thus far, simply because I care more about the characters in this book than the others. Maybe we’ll get a huge, game changing issue next.
