I think Captain America’s filming has been a success for internet marketing. They’re filming a lot of the movie outside in Ohio and we have seen more set photos than you can shake a stick at, and Marvel never even paid a dime. With all these visual cues that showcase a ton of the action and costumes, its the little details that we fail to pay attention to. Somewhere throughout the filming near the Lorain Ave bridge, a crew member was stating that the bridge was going to be used as the main bridge to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s headquarters, the Triskelion. This is where I start geeking out about that name.
The Triskelion is the island/building that is used in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe comics to house the Ultimates and S.H.I.E.L.D. at the same time. Since many of the Marvel films have taken their queues from the Ultimate U, to see this building exist in real life (in the movie) would be awesome, even if Samuel L. Jackson/Nick Fury is living there. Most people assume the Helicarrier is the main place everything goes down, but not in the Ultimate Universe. They also house villains there in a prison, so its always getting blown up. Every year, at least once. Lets hope they keep up the tradition!
The meaning of “triskelion” is three bodies intertwining together to form a singular shape, much like the founding Ultimates/Avengers: Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. However, I feel in The Winter Soldier we’ll see Captain America, the Black Widow, and the Falcon come together to defeat evil. Even if theres no real symbol or metaphor to the actual meaning, I just wanna see the base next April!
