Finally, after 5 years we get to see one of the many benefits of when Disney decided to purchase Marvel. Starting this fall (assumed), Disney Infinity will receive a 2.0 version, which includes Disney-fied versions of Marvel’s beloved characters and we couldn’t be more ecstatic.
For anyone unfamiliar with the game, you place physical versions of your character (mini figurines) on a portal which is connected to your video game console. Within the game, you then take control of that specific character and can complete missions, play in the sandbox, or whatever features the game is offering. If you’re familiar with Activision’s Skylanders series, the game is nigh-identical. Now that Marvel will be stepping into the ring, I may give up my love and adoration for the Skylands and move into this market instead.
What seems to be the most intriguing aspect is how Disney has reenvisioned the Marvel heroes and brought them to life in the game. Black Widow seems like she was taken right out of The Incredibles, and Nick Fury may be Frozone from that film as well. The funniest character so far seems to be the villain MODOK, who’s head is way too large for his body. Either way, the transition from one form to the other is worth the payoff. Children and adults everywhere will definitely be into this series.
Another great feature, is the backwards compatibility. Characters from Disney Infinity 1.0 will work in game with the 2.0 version as well. I can’t wait for the day where Jack Skellington and Thor are destroying Frost Giants side by side on my TV. That will be the day, my friends. Even for the ladies, you could be Elsa from Frozen and (hopefully) Ms. Marvel racing on a track made in the sandbox. The possibilities are presumably endless.
Lastly, is the inclusion of power discs. They’re discs that are placed on the portal to give you extra features, abilities, or items in game. These include a Helicarrier Strike from Nick Fury, team-ups from The Winter Soldier, the Falcon’s wings to fly around, and ultimately Lola, Agent Coulson’s car from Agents of SHIELD. These little items will be the ones to make the game come to life and you’ll see me on Day 1 buying it up. Good bye real world, hello Infinity.
