Batman Game Sales on Xbox Live

0

For some crazy reason, almost every video game containing Batman on the Xbox 360 has gone on sale on Xbox LIVE this week. Check the prices and list below to see if you’re interested in any of the offers. Batman: Arkham City for around $10 seems pretty awesome, maybe I’ll get it. The sale ends on September 16, so make haste. Which are you getting?

Ant-Man Opening Earlier Than Scheduled

1

Marvel has announced that their Ant-Man film that was slated for November 6, 2015 has been moved to July 31, 2015. This is a full 4 months earlier than scheduled and is probably somewhat related to Edgar Wright’s latest debut, The World’s End, which opened fairly strong. I also assume that Marvel has some new faith in the script and how the character may tie into Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Expect an after credits scene.

It is also worth noting Ant-Man will kick off Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leading into currently uncharted territory. We have no knowledge of what may follow, but look for our speculation at a later date.

Ant-Man is being directed by Edgar Wright, and co-written by himself and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). Preview the test footage that leaked earlier this year.

Leaked Xbox One Footage

Someone already has an Xbox One and is either very lucky or a wanted man. Either way, enjoy some hands on footage of Microsoft’s new console in action. The rest of us will have to wait until November 22nd to play one.

JARVIS App to hit iOS with Iron Man 3

0

Second screen apps are all the rage these days, especially when Marvel’s The Avengers hit Blu-ray/DVD last year. They included the Avengers Second Screen Experience and allowed those with the app to view data files for all the characters, weapons, and other background information (including a closer look at Thanos). The Amazing Spider-man also had one, but I never used it.

The apps can be used by themselves, with some information already unlocked, or in tandem with the film. It syncs with the movie’s start and gives you extra information as it plays. This technology stemmed from the Blu-ray Live features which downloaded information from the internet as film played and gave overlays, picture-in-picture videos, and other enhancements, but this required a networked Blu-ray player and a solid connection to work. As tablets (and smart phones) take rise in the marketplace, second screen experiences moved to apps. Even Microsoft got into the business with SmartGlass, something I truly enjoy using.

With Iron Man 3’s release this month, Marvel has decided to take second screen apps to a brand new level with JARVIS. If you recall, Jarvis is the AI butler for Tony Stark throughout the Marvel films, who may or may not evolve into Ultron for Avengers 2. The JARVIS app will have all the second screen features those who are invested in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could want, but strives to be more and truly become an interactive assistant like in the film.

Paul Bettany will again be the voice of JARVIS, having recorded 20+ hours of original content for the app alone, so expect some unexpected responses. JARVIS will allow users to unlock Iron Man 3 content, including all 42 armors and other hidden files, but also comes with the ability to be controlled with voice commands, a first for second screen apps. When you’re not connected to the film, you can use JARVIS as a standalone app containing an alarm clock, local weather, and access to social media. I would personally find it much more gratifying to say “JARVIS, tell Facebook ‘What does the fox say?” than talking to SIRI, but this is more preference than anything.

Iron Man 3 is released September 24, but you can go ahead and pick up JARVIS on September 10 in the App Store. Come back next week as I give you some hands on experiences with JARVIS and see if he’s truly going to become Ultron in the process. Until then, enjoy the screenshots below.

Bring Pacific Rim Home in October

0

Pacific Rim was a movie that I thought deserved more money than it made, but still fell like a CG inflated Sci-Fi channel film with the one dimensional characters. Either way, if you missed it in theaters (which I hope you didn’t), Legendary has revealed the day you can bring it home on Blu-ray, DVD, and/or Digital copies to be October 15. This is a really fast turn around from theater to physical release, but the movie was held a year for 3D conversion to begin with. Take a peek at the Blu-ray case below via Amazon and get excited to watch this in the safety of your living room.

Comic Reviews for 9/4/13

New comic book day! We could totally write about the majority of the Marvel issues coming out this week, but I’ll tell you right now that only a few caught our eye. Check them out below, potentially spoiler free.

[toggle title=”Infinity #2 – Chris”]

Infinity #2 comes to us when we most need it. It picks up on the heels of Infinity #1, Avengers #18, and New Avengers #9 and wraps them all in a package that has kicked up my interest, while maintaining the flow of the story that readers desire. The second part of this six issue event presents (brand) new information while shedding light on events that have transpired in the previous issue (and respective tie-ins), leading up to a draw dropping conclusion for the book.

The (assumed) success of this event and my unnatural love for it has come from how Jonathan Hickman has positioned his players across the board since Marvel NOW! started nearly a year ago. Starting with Avengers #1 and New Avengers #1, Hickman has crafted two groups of super powered people who are faced with situations that are catastrophic to the Earth and on a more intimate scale, the team relationships. Now the heroes are faced with enemies they cannot simply punch in the face or hide from the world as the Cull Obsidian begins a destructive reign.

Since the Marvel NOW! branding, Marvel has taken liberties in introducing brand new characters, which have yielded unexpected results. To not have the baggage of 40+ years in comic books is one of the most freeing feelings yet, as Corvus Glaive presents himself to the Inhumans. We know not how he will act, and this scene proves to be most intriguing. As the book shifts to the cosmic battles, we see the Ex Nihili and some of their new powers as Gladiator and his troops obtain a victory. Hickman has given us truly frightening characters due to our lack of knowledge in their operations and their appearance seems to be that which can only be created in nightmares.

The chapter format works well in Infinity #2 again, as we are presented with fewer chapters, but more meaningful information. The book leaves few stones unturned as it moves throughout the locales which are in most danger, Earth, Space, and Attilan (technically Earth right now, but whatever). The reader never gets lost in these transitions either as the switches come at proper times in the story flow, giving enough situation to breathe and escalate at the same time. Infinity as a whole would make for one hell of a cinematic experience.

Lastly, the artwork leaves a little bit to be desired in this issue. A notably ugly scene involves a close up view of Medusa, wife of Black Bolt. Her eyes, forehead, and angles all prove to be nearly revolting for a queen who is supposed to be full of beauty and elegance. I’m also not a huge fan of the Avenger’s space suits, since they all seem to have different ones that allow for fighting in deep-space environments. I have an affinity for Falcon’s hawk head helmet though, that thing is tight. In the end, the characters (mostly in space) almost look greasy to a point that it detracts from the rest of the story, but not enough for me to hate it.

Infinity #2 is a book that follows its excellent predecessor with the right amount of action and drama, preventing it from suffering event lulls that we’ve seen in more recent stories. The background has set, the wheels are in motion, and with one of the best reveals I’ve seen in a long time, we’re looking to get a triple A story that Marvel fans will be talking about for years.

Transformers 4 Title and Poster Revealed

0

Transformers 4 is happening, and I’m kind of excited about it. I don’t hate the other ones, they’re mindless fun and I enjoy watching cars beat up on each other. A lot. Tons of destruction, lots of explosions, its pure unadulterated awesomeness. I’ll never hold them to high standards either, and that is why I think I can get on board a 4th installment.

Straight from Yahoo! Movies, we have the poster and title of the 4th Transformers movie, Age of Extinction via the first released poster for the film (below). Although a minimalist poster, the title does give away some facts, that the Dinobots will be making an appearance. Yes sir, that is correct. We’ll be getting Dinobots full realized on the big screen and I cannot be more excited. Is it also a coincidence it bears a similar title to the already revealed Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron? Not sure yet, but it seems too similar to shrug off.

With a little under a year left and filming still in production, what other secrets will we get along the way?

Directed by Michael Bay and starring Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer, Transformers: Age of Extinction movie is set to be released on June 27th, 2014.

UPDATED SPOILERS

We also have seen a new prop from the filming that might give away more than we like to share. If you want to see the SPOILER image (you have been warned), click below.

Detroit will be Metropolis and Gotham

0

As pre-production on the Man of Steel sequel picks up and we got a surprise casting announcement, the studio is making decisions much faster than I’ve ever seen. WB and Snyder have decided to forgo Vancouver as the film’s location of principal photography and have instead replaced it with Detroit, Michigan. This comes from the Michigan Film Office and Snyder himself.

“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” says Snyder. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”

Now, before you start talking about the bad reputation Detroit Rock City has gained over the years, its important to note that this production comes after the state was in active talks to remove the tax incentives filmmakers would get for bringing their production there. Another interesting fact is that the city has declared bankruptcy as well, so this production could inject a ton of life into the city, where half of ComicUI is located. We’re crossing our fingers to get some hands on footage of the production when it ramps up next year.

Stay tuned as we bring more updates on the Yet-to-be-named Sequel to Man of Steel, which I enjoyed earlier this year.

Games with Gold: September Offerings

On the cusp of a new month, Microsoft has already unveiled their free games for September in the Games with Gold promotion. Don’t forget to get the latter August games (Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero) before midnight!

First up for August we get Magic 2013 ($9.99). The game is based on Magic: The Gathering card game and focuses on Duels of the Planeswalkers. It offers up some paid DLC (not sure if that will be free yet) and some complimentary downloads too. Also, the game has 2 player offline coop and up to 4 player online battles with your deck. Fans of the franchise shouldn’t be disappointed.

Play with friends or the AI, take on new encounters and opponents, and face up to three other players in the Planechase multiplayer format. Featuring ten customizable decks, Magic 2013 offers new game items to unlock and introduces the option to choose what lands to tap when you cast your spells.

The second half of the month offers up something drastically different in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas ($19.99). The game offers up a first person, tactical shooter. Fans of the series have probably played it already, but FREE things are pretty awesome. There are also some Player’s Packs that include new maps, modes, and more for free as well.

Get RainbowSix Vegas (Sept 16-30) – Rainbow operatives take to the chaotic streets of Las Vegas as an escalating terrorist siege in “Sin City” threatens to take world terrorism to new, uncontrollable heights. The future of global security hangs in the balance as you battle to defend classic Vegas locations and environments like Fremont Street, the Strip, and casinos.
