Games with Gold – February 2015

0

January is coming to and end, so make sure you get your Games with Gold freebies before they’re gone. Then, get ready for the obscure handouts Microsoft is giving us in February.

With February’s Games with Gold, Xbox One gamers get It Draws a Red Box(otherwise known as #IDARB) – an offbeat, crowdsourced multiplayer action game, and Xbox 360 gamers get treated to two awesome titles; Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, an emotional, atmospheric puzzle platformer, and Sniper Elite V2, a pulse-pounding third-person shooter. As usual, all games are available for a limited time.

#IDARB ($14.99 ERP): Available from Feb. 1 – 28 on Xbox One

#IDARB is a stunning conglomeration of game types built into one title. Part platformer, part hockey,  part fighting game, and part party game, #IDARB features tight controls and a frenetic, eight-player local co-op core that makes it a blast to play offline or online. The game was built based on suggestions that developer Other Ocean Interactive received from fans on Twitter, and includes some truly unique game options, including the ability to make your own music, characters, and spectator interaction with real-time games via social media! One of the most exciting things about the game is that it’s ever-changing, and the developer has promised to continue adding new content, characters, and even gameplay elements over the course of #IDARB’s life cycle.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons ($14.99 ERP): Available from Feb. 1 – 15 on Xbox 360

For Xbox 360 enthusiasts, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a powerfully emotional tale of two young men struggling to save their father’s life in a medieval fantasy world. They must work together to overcome obstacles of the physical and magical variety – facing down angry giants, insane cultists, and a town seemingly frozen by snow in an instant. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons presents a vibrant world, which the titular characters discover just as surely as they discover how powerful the bond between siblings can really be.

Sniper Elite V2 ($29.99 ERP): Available from Feb. 16 – 28 on Xbox 360

Additionally, Xbox 360 gamers get another fantastic title. Sniper Elite V2 is a third-person shooter that places you at the midst of World War II, trying to put an end to Germany’s V-2 rocket program with nothing but your wits and your handy sniper rifle. Stealth and a steady trigger finger are what counts here, although a bevy of items and upgrades transform the game from a simple stealth shooter to an open-ended adventure. Sniper Elite V2 also features a robust cooperative multiplayer mode that sees players working together, which adds a lot of extra depth to the game.

Fantastic 4 Trailer with Director’s Commentary

0

We’ve now seen the new Fantastic 4 trailer and its not nearly the train wreck we were promised. It even resembles the Ultimate Fantastic Four origins more than anything, which I’m a huge fan.

Now that we’ve had an hour to take in the trailer, Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg, the director and writer of the film respectively, have released a commentary version of the trailer on Yahoo! movies.

Normally you get this kind of thing with the home release of the film, but for now we’ll take it. Watch on to hear how Stan Lee fell in love with the movie’s premise!

FANTASTIC FOUR Trailer

0

We thought that it would be a long while to see the first FANTASTIC FOUR reboot trailer. Instead, I awoke this morning to find the trailer would be hitting online today! Also enjoy a behind the scenes photo of Johnny Storm’s new outfit below!

Here you have it, the first official footage of FANTASTIC FOUR from Fox studios. Directed by Josh Trank, The Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell with Reg E. Cathey, and the film is scheduled for release on August 7, 2015.

What do you think of the trailer? Are the changes from the original films enough to make you forget them or just rub your feathers the wrong way?

David Tennant Cast as Villain on AKA JESSICA JONES

0

In a surprise casting announcement, Marvel has revealed David Tennant of Doctor Who fame will be the villain of AKA JESSICA JONES, the second Netflix series premiering later this year. He will be portraying Killgrave on the series. In AKA JESSICA JONES, Killgrave is described as an “enignmatic figure from Jessica’s past” who will rattle the superhero-turned-sleuth to her core.

For those who have read the comic Alias that stars Jessica Jones, Killgrave is also known as “The Purple Man” in the Marvel comics universe. He originally appeared as a nemesis for Daredevil and Luke Cage—two other characters set for a Netflix series—before becoming a major Jessica Jones antagonist.

You can see the Purple Man in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cartoon in the episode Emperor Stark. He has the ability to control their actions by verbal suggestions.

Do you think David Tennant will be a good villain after his time as a hero in Doctor Who?

Daniel Bruhl’s Character in CIVIL WAR Unmasked

0

Last year we revealed Daniel Bruhl (The Fifth Estate) would be joining Captain America’s third film, now titled CIVIL WAR. At the time, we didn’t have a lock down on who he would be playing in the film, but rather he would be joining it and possibly carrying over to DOCTOR STRANGE. Today, through a casting call, we can confirm what Marvel villain Bruhl will be playing in 2016.

SPOILERS…but not really?

Ok, Bruhl will be playing Baron Zemo. This is awesome news, as Zemo is a great villain and has always had it out for Captain America. You can get a sense of him by watching Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as he is constantly a thorn in the sides of the heroes there. There have been two Zemos throughout Marvel’s comics, first is Heinrich, a World War II adversary of Cap’s, but the most recent in current comics and timeline (and well known) is his son Helmut. Yes, Helmut Zero…which is a terrible name. I’d be a bad guy too if my name was that! Hopefully they’ll change the name by next year.

Either way, with this casting call coming out, we should expect to hear more about CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR as production heats up. Do you think Bruhl will make a good Zemo or is the movie already becoming too crowded?

DOCTOR STRANGE Looking to Cast Chiwetel Ejiofor

0

Chiwetel Ejiofor, with a name like that, he should be cast in DOCTOR STRANGE. Just kidding, but really, Marvel is in talks to have the star of 12 Years a Slave appear in their Doctor Strange film. Current word is that he will NOT play a villain, so we can cast those rumors aside.

If Ejiofor isn’t a villain, who we presume will be Baron Mordo, who could he be? Options include the Ancient One, who mentors Strange early on, and possibly Brother Voodoo, the man who would be Sorcerer Supreme after Strange gave up the title.

The Ancient One seems unlikely, as that role is traditionally Asian descent and has been for years. Not that we think Marvel would change the role, but casting an Academy nominated actor is no small deal. Brother Voodoo is an option as he’s been making a resurgence in Marvel’s comics after being away for a while. He’s recently resurged in Avengers World and was a big player in AXIS’s ending late last year.

At this rate, we know he’s in talks to be cast and we’ll expect something official from Marvel sooner than later.

X-MEN Cast Young Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm

0

2016 will see 3 X-Men movies, the biggest no doubt being X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. We know that Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult will be returning as Mystique, Magneto, Xavier, and Beast respectively, while adding Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse. The movie will take place in the 80’s and we were expecting to see the original 3 X-Men appear, and now they’ve been cast.

Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm will make appearances as younger versions of what we’ve seen on film so far. Bryan Singer has confirmed via twitter that actors Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean), and Tye Sheridan (Cyclops) have joined the cast. Many will recognized Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones as Sansa Stark, with Alexandra Shipp playing Aaliyah in the biopic about the singer’s life. Sheridan is known for the film Mud.

While we don’t know what part they will play in the film, it seems they’re being setup to possibly play the X-Men in films beyond Apocalypse, which ends the trilogy for the original cast. We should also expect to see Evan Peters return as Quicksilver as well.

Do you think they cast right for the film? My doubts linger, but perhaps we shall see as production begins this year.

SUPERGIRL TV Show Casts Lead

0

We’ve reported about CW creating a spinoff TV show called Krypton, about Superman’s homeworld years before Kal-El was born. Now, CBS has confirmed that they’ve cast Melissa Benoist (Glee) in the main role for SUPERGIRL, the TV series.

Benoist will play Kara Zor-El, who escaped her home planet of Krypton amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has concealed the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

More things need to be revealed about this show. Since it is on CBS, will it cross over with the CW shows or play into the larger DC Cinematic Universe with the movies? It’ll be interesting to see where it lands, so we’ll keep our eye on this project for now.

Tom Hardy drops out of SUICIDE SQUAD

0

SUICIDE SQUAD is one of DC’s riskiest movies, but it feels like an imitation Guardians of the Galaxy. Since the movie was announced with a pretty solid cast, not much else has gone on. We know it’ll premiere in 2016, so filming has to start eventually, right?

Well, before they could even get the cameras unpacked, Tom Hardy has dropped from the film and his role as Rick Flag. If anyone could have left the movie, why couldn’t it have been Jai Courtney? I definitely don’t like him. Either way, they’re now looking to replace Rick Flag.

Good news is that the front runner is Jake Gyllenhaal! Sure, he’s made a few bad decisions like being the Prince of Persia, but lately it seems he’s getting better. I have Nightcrawler queued up to watch sometime soon as it is, but then I found out it wasn’t an X-Men spinoff.

Either way, with Hardy out and perhaps Gyllenhaal in, we’ll know more once production begins this April. Like who Rick Flag even is.

New Netflix info for their Marvel Series

0

Marvel and Netflix really are moving forward with their series. With the hype for Daredevil reaching maximum lately, Netflix has given us some more information regarding the next 4 shows. As reported, DAREDEVIL will be the first series of 4, that culminates in the DEFENDERS, a street level type of Avengers.

Next up, Kristyn Ritter will be playing Jessica Jones in AKA JESSICA JONES, which starts filming next month and will be releasing in 2015. That increases our Marvel content for the year and sounds awesome.

Luke Cage has been cast (Mike Colter) and will appear in AKA JESSICA JONES first, before his TV series starts. According to Netflix, “In this Marvel live-action series, a street-fighting ex-con battles crime in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen as the superhero Luke Cage. Coming soon.” This is great to hear, as it sounds like it’ll stick close to his origins and give us the Luke Cage we deserve!

Following Luke Cage will be IRON FIST. While we know a lot about Iron Fist from Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man TV show, his live action debut should definitely kick some literal ass. Netflix describes the show: “Marvel’s Iron Fist” follows superhero and martial arts master Danny Rand in the upcoming live-action series. Coming soon

Lastly, the DEFENDERS has gotten a description on which we all know, “Marvel’s The Defenders” brings together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage in an epic superhero team-up in New York City.

Netflix beginning to flesh these series out is exciting and shows that both Marvel and Netflix are sticking to their guns to see this through. Are these new definitions for beloved Marvel characters what you want to see on screen or did Netflix get it way off? You can guarantee we’ll update you with more information as it arrives.
