Marvel’s Movie Logo: One Year Later

-

It has been a little over a year since Marvel introduced their new Studio logo in front of their cinematic universe productions. Within that time, we’ve had 3 movies release, one TV show, and a single One-Shot. With 10+ movies on the horizon and at least one additional TV series, I thought it was time to take a look at how Marvel is branding their cinematic universe again.

First off, everyone knows the traditional Marvel fanfare. Comic book pages, flipping sounds, culminating in the bright red Marvel logo. We’ve seen this Spider-Man (2002) and still see it through movies based on Marvel’s characters today, X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Its very iconic, simple, and lets you know the movie you’re about to watch is based out of Marvel’s impressive and stellar lineup, even if the movie turns out to be…not.

In fact, the video below showcases how the Marvel logo was changed to use comics from the film it precedes. Examples include: Hulk (2003), Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the Punisher. Let’s watch those logos.

Now, Marvel has their own logo. Since Thor: The Dark World (2013), the Disney owned company had a new logo created by Imaginary Forces, the company behind the original logo. “You look back at the other films, and they’ve also featured our studio partners’ or distribution partners’ logos. But now that we are our own entity within the Walt Disney Company, it is only the Marvel logo in front of the movies. So that felt like the time to update it and have something that is more substantial as a standalone logo in front of our features,” Kevin Feige told Marvel.com. You will only see this logo in front of Marvel Cinematic movies, while the older version will live on in other Marvel properties.

This new logo also had a fanfare created by Brian Tyler, the composer for Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. This music has already trained me to get hyped for the next few hours and lets me know it won’t be a let down. I view it as a stamp of approval and quality. With the metallic shine at the finish, I can say without a doubt, I look forward to seeing this for the next 11 years until they decide to change it again.
