In a surprise casting news, it has been confirmed that Glenn Close has joined the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie directed by James Gunn. Word through the grapevine is that she’ll play the leader of the Nova Corps. Nova, a character who was at one point associated with the Guardians, is a Marvel NOW character who can be seen in his own issues of Nova and on the Ultimate Spider-man TV show as a frenemy of Spider-man. The Nova Corps however, is military space exploration and militia that is from the planet Xandar. Although I don’t expect seeing a film version of the 616 Nova any time soon, the acknowledgement of the Corps is definitely a huge step in filling out the Marvel Galactic Universe.
Glenn Close is known for her resume of acting jobs that include 101Â Dalmatians, Mars Attacks, Air Force One, and Albert Nobbs, as well as her role on the award winning FX drama Damages. This kind of star power is very similar to the casting of Robert Redford in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I would personally portray Close as a character actor, and will be more than capable of bringing a comic book character to full realization on the big screen.

Glenn Close joins Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond and Lee Pace in the last Phase 2 Marvel film before Avengers 2. Most likely remembered as space Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy will follow Starlord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket Racoon in August 2014.
