The Wolverine has a new Photo

1

Twitter. Man. If I could have only seen the potential years ago and turned it into an hourly regime, I’d be king of the internet. However, I’m not the most avid user but I still find time to discover all the latest and greatest comic book news, especially for the movies.

Fox has tweeted (see, that had a point) a new photo from the Wolverine that contains a quote about the film from Hugh Jackman himself. Its nothing usual, just a marketing piece coming from the lead actor, rather than the director or producer, yet I can’t find myself from giggling at the very grumpy cat-esque face that Jackman has adopted to his face. If you’re unfamiliar with grumpy cat look below and just know she got a movie deal as well. We live in strange times, folks.

And some grumpy cat for comparison.

Hugh Jackman is Logan in The Wolverine.  The story is set in a distant and unfamiliar land, where Logan must finally embrace who he is, and always will be.  The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan.  There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed. The Wolverine is opening July 26 and directed by James Mangold.

The Winter Soldier Smacks Steve Rogers – Set Photos/Videos

3

Its a great week for comic book movie news! Someone over at ComicBookMovie.com has posted blurry cam set photos from the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier show off a closer view of The Winter Soldier actually laying the law down on our favorite super soldier, Captain America. Earlier this week we saw the singular Winter Soldier in his outfit, limb replacement, and gun, but in this he seems to be unarmed (pun intended) and overwhelming Cap in hand to hand combat.

Check out some images of the fight below and some videos below that as well. Click the images for their larger versions.

Expected release date is April 4, 2014 and will be the third movie in Marvel’s Phase 2 lineup.

James Gunn and the not-so Rocket Raccoon

1

I really hope this isn’t some more casting news, but James Gunn has brought in a raccoon into the studio to study for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He plans on using live raccoons as the base for the Rocket Raccoon character, an anthropomorphized creature who loves blasting things to bit and fighting evil across the galaxy. Take a look at the photo revealed via twitter and think of how adorable this little guy could be in the movie!

James Gunn will direct Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Ophelia Lovibond and Lee Pace in the last Phase 2 Marvel film before Avengers 2. Most likely remembered as space Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy will follow Starlord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket Racoon in August 2014.

Beast Vs. Magneto: Set Photos

2

In an unbelievable set of photos over at Fan-Girl.org, we get a glimpse of Nicholas Hoult dressed up as Beast fighting Michael Fassbender as Magneto in a fountain. The image set can be viewed HERE  or in the slideshow below and I do recommend you check them out sooner than later. If the fountain isn’t enough to get you wet, then the stud-on-stud action will.

We’ve seen a sneak peak at Beast before from Bryan Singer’s tweets, which has been included. You can check out Fassbender as Magneto here and here. Do you think we’ve seen enough of the movie yet to piece together a full version?

New Gameplay Footage of Lego Marvel Super Heroes

1

Hot on the heels of Marvel Heroes released this week by Gazillion Entertainment, Eurogamer has released an exclusive interview with TellTale games about LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Within that interview includes a new, never seen before level of the game featuring Thor, Wolverine, the Human Torch, and Captain America as they fight Loki and the Destroyer across Jotunheim (Frost giants) and Asgard (Bifrost bridge which turned out visually stunning). The second half of the interview includes the previous released footage of Spider-man, Iron Man and Hulk as they battle Abomination and Sandman in New York.

Some cool new features in this game include the ability for Captain America’s shield to deflect weapons, including large lasers, Thor seems to charge himself up and put on his battle armor from the cinematic universe, Loki can control NPC’s in the world to fight you, Spider-man and Wolverine have a ‘sixth sense’ ability to detect hidden interactions throughout the world,  and Wolverine has a really fun invincibility trick, instead of bursting into a bunch of LEGOs when defeated, he turns into an adamantium skeleton and keeps slashing at the baddies. Definitely a fun time with the humor and charm we’ve come to expect from all the LEGO games.

The story revolves around the Silver Surfer’s board being broken up amongst the Marvel Universe and the bad guys trying to get their hands on the pieces, so I expect to see some LEGO Galactus at some point too. There will be over 100 Marvel characters to play throughout the game, but only 18 will be featured in the story mode. The other dozens will have to be unlocked, found, or purchased using the LEGO studs you can find. Lastly, the hub world will be Manhattan as you roam around the streets interacting with all the LEGO people and other items strewn about, with the ability to travel to other locations such as the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building, Avengers Tower, the Raft super villain prison, Asgard, and more. With E3 around the corner, we’ll be back with more updates on this awesome game as they come out. Until then, catch out the awesome video below.

Update: Del Toro NOT Thanos??

0

In another rumor about the ever unknown Guardians of the Galaxy casting, word from ComicBookMovie.com states that Benicio Del Toro’s recent casting theory as Thanos is misleading. Instead, it is word that he may be playing Taneleer Tivan, aka The Collector.

In a previous post on ComicUI, we speculated that Lee Pace was a contender for that villain should he choose to appear in the Guardians film. However, upon closer inspection of the cover of Avengers #119, the Collector has a closer appearance to that of Del Toro than Pace. The square jaw and crazy hair of Tivan really reflect upon the aging, yet always beautiful, Del Toro’s physique. Pace, however, has the boyish good looks that would make fangirls (and boys) squeal with pleasure.

The only thing conflicting this rumor is that Del Toro has signed a multiple picture deal with Marvel. How big? We don’t know. It could be future cameos or a full on main villain with a huge conflict (like Thanos!). Time will only tell until official casting news has been released to the masses.

Check out the original appearance below and let us know who should be the Collector?

Joss Whedon Requires Downey for Avengers 2

0

The biggest worry for everyone this year isn’t politics or global catastrophes, but rather the casting of Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man for future films, most specifically Avengers 2. Joss Whedon however is showing his iron will when it comes to keeping RDJ as Tony Stark for his next big piece. At this point it is unclear how negotiations will go over the next year before filming starts, but I have so much faith in his return it would be considered unhealthy.

In Whedon’s interview with The Daily Beast,  “He is Iron Man. He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond. I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. I don’t think it’s in my interest, Marvel’s interest, or his interest, and I think everything will be fine.”

Adding later, “But I know that this is Hollywood and you roll with things. You have to be ready for the unexpected. But I loved working with Robert, and everybody knows he embodied that role in a way no one else can. The day he was cast, I went up to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and said, ‘You brilliant son of a bitch.’”

And if you didn’t read that in Joss’ voice, then shame on you. Lets hope they work out a price that everyone can agree on and make Avengers 2 another great piece of Marvel history.

Hi-res Photos from Thor: The Dark World

Next up on Marvel’s cinematic plate is Thor: The Dark World. Despite all the great news surrounding casting of Guardians of the Galaxy and set photos from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the next film to be previewed has only had one trailer and minimal amounts of thunder elsewhere. Today Disney released several high resolution photos from the upcoming film which showcase Thor himself and the dark elves, including their king and leader, Malekith, the accursed. Take notice at their blonde hair underneath the battle armor and how their weapons look very organic, yet similar to the Chitauri ones used during the Avengers. Until we get some official posters and other artwork, or a secondary trailer enjoy the gifts that have been given from the All Father, Marvel and his mistress, Disney.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor and will be released November 8 of this year.

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Photo: Michael Fassbender Always Gives Me A Rise

1
EXCLUSIVE: First look at Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy look groovy on new 'X-MEN Days of Future Past' set

On the heels of the other Days of Future Past photos from Twitter this week, Bryan Singer tweets one of Michael Fassbender being filmed on set. My first assumption is that he’s a short person, but we all know Fassbender is quite the tall drink of water. As you can tell, he is being elevated into the air on a platform (that we will not see on screen) and is taking to the skies. How far or high is up to anyone but Magneto has always been a master of levitation, which is apparent in the Opening cinematic of Marvel Heroes. I’m hoping for some publicity stills and poster work soon rather than these camera phone teases, but they say patience is a virtue.
