Marvel/Disney have released a new, kid-friendly version of the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer that premiered a few weeks ago. It includes about 2 seconds (if that) of new footage but also removes some crotch adjusting that signaled the end of the trailer.

Not several days after Drew Goddard reduced his role for Marvel’s upcoming DAREDEVIL series on Netflix and Steven S. DeKnight stepped up to replace him, the first rumors of casting for the man without fear have landed as well. Latino Review (who first broke the Goddard story) is now saying that Charlie Cox (Stardust, Boardwalk Empire) is the frontrunner for the blind lawyer, Matt Murdock, and his crime fighting personality, Daredevil.
The site reports: “I am hearing that Charlie Cox, the English actor best known for his starring role as Tristan Thorne in Stardust and more recently for his supporting role in the second and third seasons of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, is looking like he is going to be Marvel’s Daredevil!“
This may be us following blindly (pun intended), but I think casting a relative unknown in the experimental series for Marvel is a right choice. I do enjoy Stardust as well, and being a part of Boardwalk Empire shows that Cox has the acting ability and B-list recognition to bolster the show. Not that we need any convincing to watch it, we’re excited regardless.

In what seems like a week full of break ups and departures, Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) has left Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series, Daredevil, as consultant and show runner to continue working on Sony’s SINISTER SIX spin-off film. This seems to be another amicable split, as Goddard will still remain an executive producer on the series and has been replaced with Steven DeKnight (Spartacus, Angel, Buffy). The initial pilot and consecutive episode have been written by Goddard and will still be used as well.
As production ramps up on the Marvel’s Netflix series, expect more finalized details to come to light, especially casting confirmation for the blind lawyer.

After the second (and best) trailer for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY came out last week, it was my goal to obtain high resolution screenshots to see if any details could be gleaned from it. Unfortunately, no secrets were found but the images definitely give us lots of good looks at Rocket, Groot, Ronan, and more!

The 7th film in the X-Men franchise does more right than wrong, but still fails to reinvigorate the series with any new information. The bleak tone, combined with the ticking clock served to detract from the sentimental pieces that hold the film afloat. Apart from being a complete disaster, we see a more intimate group of mutants who can’t seem to make up their mind which side they’re truly on. When one character made up their mind, another seemed to change their for no real reason other than to be an antagonist for the plot.
The film also introduces a lot of deliberate-yet-unexplained devices that contradict what we’ve been told for 14 years. How does Professor X return from his disintegration in X3? Why does Wolverine have adamantium claws when he lost them in The Wolverine? And since when did Kitty Pryde get to time travel? All of these questions linger in my mind as the film ends on an all too familiar note, Magneto and Xavier parting amicably in opposite directions.
The emotional development of the characters is somewhat refreshing and realistic in the time frame given. Drugs were big in the 70s, even if they’re taken by mutants, and I found the underlying connection suitable for the era. The Xavier and Logan dynamic is one that truly shines throughout the film, as a teacher has become the student and vice versa. James McAvoy is truly a young professor with his gravitas and anguish, while Hugh Jackman becomes Wolverine incarnate the older he gets. It is outside of these interactions in which the film slows down and doesn’t progress much beyond First Class’ events (which took place 10 movie years prior). Fassbender is a good Erik Lensherr with the material given, but isn’t allowed room to grow or breath. The new spotlight on Mystique does help remove the Dark Phoenix taste from our mouths, only to introduce her as a new problem: the only female mutant. If the original love triangle from X1-3 wasn’t enough to make you sick, you will not enjoy three men and their fascination with her.
Days of Future Past feels alot like an apology attempt by Fox and Bryan Singer for several films before it. It knowingly erases Origins: Wolverine and The Last Stand (the others could still exist), while also acting as a snuff piece for many mutants. Some people have claimed the deaths of their favorite mutants in the future as very emotional, but I can assure you they’re just in shock. The brutality of the Sentinels of the future is sure to be a topic of discussion for months, but they achieved their goal: to be scary and devastating. It is when the original Sentinels appear that falls short. We were teased the robots rather than the film using them beyond pure spectacle.
It is the ending of the film that seemed to falter and not drive the point home, but deliver fan service alone. From the incredible amount of cameos, the viewer is no longer left sure how the timeflow will exist after this film. Is there a future timeline that will use the original cast? Or is there only the past timeline post 1973 which we’ll see films with new characters? I once thought I knew, but now feel less sure than when I walked into the movie. Once more, Magneto gets away free and in opposition to Charles Xavier’s goal. This is how we’ve seen many X-Men movies end before this and it feels like a cop out. Sure, they can’t truly stop one another, but must it end so ambiguously every time?
At the end of the day, X-Men: Days of Future Past will not convert the unbelievers to the franchise. It struggles along the way to be something truly unique, but ultimately falls prey to its own fan service. Without much development from three of the five main characters, it feels as if the huge set pieces and spectacle were unnecessary to the emotional story that lies in the heart of this film, the redemption of Xavier by Logan.

Sorry, guys. Edgar Wright has officially departed the Ant-Man film, which is still slated for release next July.
Sources on the matter stated, “Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their visions of the film,” read a statement released on Friday. “The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

With the production of JURASSIC WORLD underway, several behind the scenes snapshots are now giving us a look at how the Isla Nublar is now laid out.
These photos point out a Jurassic Lagoon, so expect some water dinosaurs, the T-Rex Kingdom, a must for any Jurassic Park sequel, as well as the return of Triceratops, Gallimimus, and Pteranodons. The images also go on to reveal new features on the park, including a Gondola ride, Golf Course, Gyrosphere, Cruise ship, and some new dinosaurs, mosasaurus.

There are two good things in life, Marvel and video games. Now when they come together, thats something special. Disney Infinity 2.0 is bringing the Avengers to their established game franchise and we’re ecstatic. After the launch trailer a few weeks ago got us ready for release, the newest trailer shows off the gameplay of the starting 6 characters.

This Friday marks a first for comic book movies, the release of the 7th entry in a film franchise and the same number of occurrences of Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman. We found this more than appropriate to celebrate the history of the X-Men cinematic universe and congratulate it on that achievement. You may say that Marvel has 9 movies under their belt now, with a 10th on the way, but those are separate films and are not (attempting) to tell the same character’s stories through time.
To kick off this momentous occasion, we’ve gone through all of the X-Men films and created a timeline to help understand how the Mutant Universe operates. Days of Future Past combines the cast of the original X-Men trilogy with the stars of the First Class film to bridge the gap between eras and give us the biggest list of A-listers to date.
At the end of this article, check out the scrapbook timeline we’ve created to help visualize how all of these films play together (or clash) since the first film was created in 2000. We hope this clears up some confusion for those who wish to jump into the franchise!
To begin, it is important to understand that the X-Men films were not created equally or sequentially. This isn’t the fault of anyone in particular, but rather a consequence of creating a super successful set of movies that wanted to tell stories from different parts of the robust X-Men catalog.
In 2000, Fox Studios released X-Men to the world. Directed by Bryan Singer, the film brought together the X-Men and proved that a team of super powered characters could work on screen. Acting as a message for equality and against discrimination, the film was a resounding success which spawned a sequel in 2003, X-2: X-Men United.
The sequel to one of the first successful comic book films had a lot to live up to, and delivered on every front. Many people hold X2 as a prime example of great filmmaking, a superior sequel, and how team movies should be made. We definitely agree. Bryan Singer returned to direct and brought with him many cast members from X-Men.
2006 saw the original X-Men trilogy come to a close with X-Men: The Last Stand. This time, Brett Ratner would be at the helm and because of such, receive the brunt of the blame for making an inferior end to the series. Despite being the most financially successful of any X-Men movie at the time, critics and fans were let down by the follow up to one of the most iconic superhero films to date.
X-Men frenzy was at a low point after The Last Stand seemed to in fact be, the last stand. However, Fox saw potential in taking the lead character, Wolverine, and crafting a film around his origins. X-Men Origins: Wolverine hit theaters in 2009 and proved that things could in fact get worse. Held as the lowest point in the Cinematic franchise, Origins was another financial success, but the worst critically. It was unsure at this time if we would see the mutants back on the big screen.
Fox again took the profits from Origins and tried a different approach. Viewed as a semi-reboot of the now 11 year old franchise, X-Men First Class released in 2011 to favorable reviews, but lower than hoped numbers. This introduced us to 1960’s mutants, as well as a brand new cast of X-Men, including leads Charles Xavier and Magneto. First Class reinvented the team and gave a breath of fresh air to the failing film series. The success of this movie ensured we’d see more X-Men in theaters.
In 2013, Fox took a similar, yet different approach and released a solo X-Men film, called The Wolverine. This focused on Logan after X-3 and what would happen if he lost his regenerative healing powers. This minimal-mutant movie gave us introspective to Logan’s battle with immortality and his actions from earlier films. By the end of it, it left us wanting more stories for the X-Men’s future.
We’re on the cusp of X-Men: Days of Future Past releasing this week and we’re confident the movie will be successful and satisfying. Bryan Singer is returning to the director’s seat and is bringing the original trilogy’s cast and the First Class group together for a story that spans decades. It is predicted to be so successful, Fox has already sanctioned a sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 and a Gambit solo film afterwards starring Channing Tatum. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a Deadpool outing and this weekend may be the bump that film ends.
The X-Men film franchise has been the longest series to-date for Marvel’s characters and will continue to do so for the next few years. It hasn’t always been sunshine for the mutants, in fact sometimes it looked dark as hell. The resilience of the characters and the undeniable resonance of their stories are what still drives these movies forward. As Days of Future Past arrives this weekend and inevitably removes several movies from this timeline, remember the journey it took to get here.
