ComicUI Exclusive: DAREDEVIL Wraps Filming this Week

Our source at Netflix and Marvel’s DAREDEVIL has been busy. First they let us know that Matt Murdock’s costume will be red and black, and now they’re sharing the invitation to celebrate wrapping on filming.

This is a screenshot from his computer, and we’ve of course blurred out locations/email addresses to protect the event. The last thing ComicUI wants to do is ruin a Marvel production party! The most interesting part of this invitation is that it states Season 1 of DAREDEVIL. Season 1? This implies Marvel and Netflix have enough faith in the series that it should see a Season 2 or more. Hopefully it doesn’t mean AKA JESSICA JONES is Season 2 with the DEFENDERS being the ultimate culmination.

Secondly, the lady in the image is unnamed but works at Whitestone Lanes, a bowling alley and appears to be stylized in this poster. What does bowling have to do with Matt Murdock? Whitestone Lanes is an actual location in New York and is NOT where this party is at so rule that out.

Either way, with filming wrapping this week, expect a lot more from the series as marketing ramps up in 2015!

KRYPTON television series revealed

SyFy has revealed they’re working on a television series called KRYPTON. Based on the DC comics superhero Superman mythology, it takes places before the planet Krypton was destroyed and Kal El was sent to earth. David S. Goyer (Constantine) and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time) are producing the series for the channel and we have the official logo as well. 

We’ve included the official release as well for KRYPTON but we can’t say we’re too interested. I think DC/Warner Bros have put a lot of investment into television lately with 4 shows currently and are banking on their next film in 2016 to launch several properties. We applaud their tenacity, yet can’t help but feel things are getting thin. Are you interested in seeing Superman’s grandpa handle some good old fashioned space politics?

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Featurette

We’ve covered a leaked version of the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON clip that is releasing with the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY tomorrow on blu-ray/DVD. However, a day before the biggest movie of 2014 is available for purchase, you can watch (most of) that clip officially.

Marvel has been nice enough to release it on Twitter and I expect to delve deep into the extra features on Guardians tomorrow when I pick it up. Who else is bringing a bunch of a-holes home tomorrow!?

Hello friends, family, and followers! Today marks the next chapter for ComicUI and we can’t do it without a little help from you.

2015 is shaping up to be one of the best years for ComicUI ! From all the great movies, TV shows, conventions, and more. Due to the success of this last year, we want to amp up our own goals and aspirations to outdo it.

2014 was another eventful year for ComicUI , including a redesign, new jobs for both of us, and a whirlwind of interviews that we can’t believe happened. We met STAN LEE, in person, with pics to prove it. ComicUI  couldn’t have done it without you.

This year, we’re asking for a little help as we start going to more conventions and bring you the best news we can. When we started in April 2013, we didn’t expect to become anything more than a small outlet for ourselves and through our fans, your support has given us tons of chances we’re very thankful for.

Our list for this year includes our favorites: Detroit Fanfare Comic-Con, C2E2, Motor City Comic-Con, Wizard World Indianapolis, Indiana Comic-Con, Gen-Con, Derby City Comic-Con, and more!

ComicUI Exclusive: DAREDEVIL’s Costume is Finalized

We have a source in New York who happens to actually live with a crew/cast member of the Marvel/Netflix DAREDEVIL series. He passes us information when applicable and gave us our biggest bit of news last night.

It seems that Matt Murdock will be getting into costume in the series and that costume will be none other than red and black. How does a blind man know what colors he is wearing? We don’t know either but we’re intrigued.

The best guess we have is that the suit will look like the one below, seen in the series Shadwoland in 2011, or perhaps more armored, as seen in Daredevil #319-#325. As details arise, we’ll share but we can’t wait for the show to hit in May 2015!

Krysten Ritter Confirmed for A.K.A. JESSICA JONES

The next Marvel and Netflix series has been revealed, as well as the main actress. Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) has been cast as Jessica Jones in A.K.A. JESSICA JONES. Thats right, it will be using the same title ABC was using years ago when shopping the a television series around.

In the press release from Marvel, it is stated that A.K.A. JESSICA JONES will be released in 2015 as well! The ever growing roster for 2015 includes Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and the other Netflix/Marvel series, Daredevil. It is a great year to be Marvel fan.

KRYSTEN RITTER TO STAR AS JESSICA JONES

Ritter will play Jessica Jones, first introduced in writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos’ classic ALIAS comic series. After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

“Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “We can’t wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015.”

“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”

Benedict Cumberbatch is DOCTOR STRANGE

YES! My favorite choice for DOCTOR STRANGE has been cast. Even earlier today I was rewatching season 3 of Sherlock, so no words can describe my delight knowing Benedict Cumberbatch will be Stephen Strange in 2016.

By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth, we have a new star in the Marvel cinematic universe. I can’t wait, really. Can you tell my excitement yet?

Do you think Khan will be a good addition for Marvel or just another pretty face in a sea of hotties?

Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts.

The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Cumberbatch rose to international prominence with his critically acclaimed turn as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous creation in “Sherlock,” currently preparing its fourth season. The series’ most recent season earned Cumberbatch the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2014, after winning the BAFTA/LA Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year in 2013.

Cumberbatch most recently starred in “The Imitation Game,” playing famed mathematician and logician Alan Turing, and will soon be seen in “The Hobbit: The Army of the Five Armies” as Smaug and the Necromancer. For the role of Smaug, Cumberbatch stepped into the world of motion capture to bring the dragon to life. He will next be seen in Scott Cooper’s film “Black Mass,” the story of Whitey Bulger coming to theaters next September, where he stars opposite Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton.

The star’s other credits include the Academy Award-winning “12 Years a Slave,” “War Horse,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “August: Osage County,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Fifth Estate,” and “Parade’s End.” Benedict will be returning to the stage this summer in Hamlet at the Barbican with Lyndsey Turner directing. His last stage performance in Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein opposite Jonny Lee Miller awarded him the Olivier.

With “Doctor Strange,” Cumberbatch is just the latest actor to join the bold Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing new heroes and continuing the adventures of fan favorites across multiple films.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS Trailer

He never lied. Terminator is back, complete with a new cast (minus Arnie returning). Taking a page from X-Men: Days of Future Past, they’re sending someone back in time to change the future, which doesn’t go as planned and results in another future instead. Crazy? Because it is.

Time travel. Killer robots. Matt Smith. Is this just another Doctor Who episode?

What I’m getting with this trailer is some timey-wimey stuff and lots of action. Watch the trailer and tell us if you’re excited or not. Is anyone else getting a Terminator 2 vibe? That shiny liquid metal Terminator looks a lot like a young version of Robert Patrick.

 

The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.

Terminator: Genesis – Is being directed by Alan Taylor (“Thor: The Dark World” & “Game of Thrones”), based off of a screenplay by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis. The films stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as an older Terminator, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. The cast also includes: J.K. Simmons (“Spider-Man”), Dayo Okeniyi (“Hunger Games”), Byung Hun Lee (“G.I. Joe: Retaliation”) and Matt Smith (“Dr. Who”). It will land in theaters July 1, 2015 release.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Working Title Revealed

Tons of movies use working titles. What is a ‘working title’ you ask? Simple, its a way for movie productions to hide the actual movie they’re making. The concept can be traced back to the early 1980s when films like E.T. had the working title A Boy’s Life and Blade Runner had the working title Dangerous Days. Most infamously, Star Wars was called ‘Blue Harvest.’

Marvel has used these since Iron Man (2008) and continues to do so. These were thought to get press and snoopy people away from the productions, but with working titles now being revealed…we can just look for those too. Its quite a mess, but the newest working title for Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR has been unveiled.

Sputnik. Thats right, just “Sputnik.” What implications does this have? We can look into Marvel’s comics history for a little bit, just like the other films had some clever way to allude to a scene in the movie. Lets take a look at previous working titles and their films.

  • Rasputin – Iron Man 2
  • Manhattan – Thor
  • Frostbite – Captain America: The First Avenger
  • Group Hug – Avengers
  • Caged Heat – Iron Man 3
  • Thursday Mourning – Thor: The Dark World
  • Freezer Burn – Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • Full Tilt – Guardians of the Galaxy
  • After Party – Iron Man 2
  • Bigfoot – The Incredible Hulk

As we see here, the working titles allude to something in the film, like Rasputin was for the Russian ties with Whiplash, Freezer Burn was of course the Winter Soldier. Now if we look at “Sputnik” (the first non-cold working title for a Captain America film), we may start to think a little deeper.

Sputnik is of course a Russian spacecraft. The Winter Soldier was trained and operated in Russia for HYDRA during his time and we know he’ll be back. Along with this, the word ‘sputnik’ was a one-time only shut down code for the assassin, implanted by his Russian ‘creators.’ This could be a scene in the movie or adapted for the Civil War use.

We’re not sure honestly, but if you see someone making a movie called “Sputnik,” go check it out.
