Marvel Casts ELEKTRA for Daredevil Season 2

0

With the recent addition of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil, it is no surprise that they’re also adding Elektra to the mix as well. Elodie Yung has been cast as the female assassin known for her red attire and ninja skills for the next season of DAREDEVIL on Netflix.

Yung’s prior work includes G.I. Joe: Retaliation and District 13: Ultimatum. Marvel described Yung’s Elektra as a “mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”

Previously portrayed by Jennifer Garner in Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005), she was mentioned briefly in Marvel’s DAREDEVIL episodes in flashbacks during Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson’s college careers.

Who else does Marvel need to add to their Netflix series to make DAREDEVIL really feel complete?

Elodie Yung (“G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” “District 13: Ultimatum”) joins the next season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” streaming only on Netflix in 2016!

Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle. The first season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” made reference to Elektra, but now Yung will portray one of Daredevil’s fan-favorite characters. Elektra marks the most recent major addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she will join Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle in the upcoming season of the Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s Daredevil.”

“After a worldwide search,  we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is Executive Produced by Doug Petrie (“American Horror Story,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), Marco Ramirez (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “DaVinci’s Demons”) and Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost”), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”)

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios. Season one of “Marvel’s Daredevil” is now streaming on Netflix.

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. “Marvel’s Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal, and Rosario Dawson.

SPIDER-MAN Cast and Director Hired

0

In a surprising move, Marvel and Sony have announced their next Spider-Man actor and the director for the 2017 universe which sets the titular character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

British actor Tom Holland (The Impossible; Wolf Hall) will be Peter Parker AKA SPIDER-MAN for Marvel and Sony’s collaboration. Also, confirmed is Jon Watts (Cop Car) as director for the film.

Through the press release, we also confirm July 28, 2017 as the release date and Sony will finance/release the film.

With speculation that SPIDER-MAN will appear in CIVIL WAR next summer, when do you think we’ll first see Holland suit up as the web-slinger?

Press Release

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017.  The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of “Cop Car,” the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both the actor and the director.  The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in “The Impossible,” “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming “In the Heart of the Sea,” and by a series of complex screen tests.  Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.

Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said, “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job.  The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding.  I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception.  I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent.  For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special.   All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life.  We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world.  With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise on July 28, 2017, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the Web-Slinger.

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

Ava DuVernay to direct BLACK PANTHER

0

Sources at the MCU Exchange have reported that Ava DuVernay (Selma) has been picked by Marvel to direct BLACK PANTHER. Starring Chadwick Bosworth as the titular character and taking place in the fictitious nation of Wakanda, BLACK PANTHER will premiere in 2018 after AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

DuVernay has been heavily rumored to be a front runner for the film and it seems that has finally been decided on by the powers that be at Marvel. Having directed the critically acclaimed, golden globe, academy award nominated Selma, her pedigree in filmmaking will be welcome from the critics.

With BLACK PANTHER showing up in Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR next year, expect a lot more to pop up regarding this film over the next few months.

ComicUI Reviews JURASSIC WORLD

0

Hold onto your butts. JURASSIC WORLD released in theaters over the weekend, breaking tons of records and making lots of cash, as it should. It is the second highest opening weekend ever (behind Avengers) and is the first movie to reach over $500 million globally in its opening weekend. It is safe to say that people love returning to the park.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW!

Jurassic World is a love child from director Colin Trevorrow and the plethora of screenwriters. It is a film that manages to ride on the coattails of awe and amazement from Jurassic Park, while still being its own film with its own thrills, especially near the climax. While many people’s concerns (including my initial gut feeling) was that this would try to retread in the first film’s beats and suffer from loud explosions, I can safely say that the trailers for this film do not do the final movie justice. The characters grow over the course of the film, as well as the dinosaurs, the true stars during the movie. What really makes this movie better than just good, is that it continues to surprise along the way, with no character feeling safe and giving a true thriller vibe through the third act.

Despite the things Jurassic World does right, there are some things it could have done to become even better. Even though we’re only dealing with carnivorous dinosaurs, others should have been brought into the fray. I’m sure there would have been creative ways to use the veggiesauruses throughout the film, rather than just scenery. Also, and this is probably stupid of me, the locales felt the same. If there had been some variety in what we were looking at, it could have injected some interest in what was happening in the film and where, rather than just two or three distinct areas.

By the end of the film, my heart was racing and I was riding a near nostalgia high from the hints and traces of the original Jurassic Park. Despite a few minor questionable choices by the end of the film, I can say that this was a great ride and after much consideration, I’ve decided to endorse this park!

Ejiofor’s Role Revealed for DOCTOR STRANGE

0

Several months ago we reported Chiwetel Ejiofor joining the cast of Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE in some capacity. Now with rumors of Tilda Swinton being cast for the Ancient One, it seems Deadline has finally figured out who Ejiofor will be playing next winter.

Baron Mordo is the top choice for Ejiofor’s character in the DOCTOR STRANGE film. First introduced in Strange Tales in 1963, Mordo has been more than a bane to the existence of Strange over the years. You can find a good example in the Doctor Strange animated film, as he is one of the antagonists there.

Deadline goes on to report that this version of Mordo is “an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange‘s mythology.” While we don’t doubt this one bit, it seems that Marvel is going to have a very diverse cast for their foray into the mystical. He also may not be a complete bad guy either, probably swaying form side to side depending on what dark arts are afoot. Or something.

Either way, DOCTOR STRANGE is set to begin filming soon and when it does, we expect to get a ton of set photos as well.

Marvel confirms PUNISHER for DAREDEVIL Season 2

0

With recent talks of Jason Statham being Punisher in Marvel’s DAREDEVIL Season 2, the company has just confirmed JON BERNTHAL (The Walking Dead) will be playing Frank Castle in 2016.

Bernthal’s credits include The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury, and of course, the ill-fated Shane in the AMC’s The Walking Dead series.

I’ve always said the Punisher would make a great Netflix series and although he isn’t confirmed for a solo series, adding him to the hit Daredevil show may be a great way to re-introduce the character. We at ComicUI agree that hating Shane on the Walking Dead was so easy, and thats why he’ll make a great Cinematic Universe Punisher.

Is this the right casting choice or should they have tried harder with Statham?

Jon Bernthal (“Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Walking Dead, ” “Fury”) joins the upcoming season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” streaming only on Netflix in 2016!

Bernthal will portray The Punisher, one of Marvel’s most popular characters. He is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results.

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Bernthal will also appear in the upcoming action thriller “The Accountant.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson.

PSA: JURASSIC WORLD Releases this Friday

0

We’ve had a dip in news lately, once Age of Ultron landed and we reviewed it, nothing has really crossed our paths tons hare. However, that doesn’t mean things aren’t going to pick back up soon!

Until then, we’re getting excited to return to the island that captured our imagination years ago, Isla Nublar in JURASSIC WORLD. This first trip back to this island since the originally Jurassic Park (the others were at Isla Sorna, a backup island where the dinosaurs were raised).

To get us ready for this awesome show, we’re going to go ahead and share an international trailer for the film, one that I came across on /Film that really shows how great this movie can (and probably will) be. Theres hardly any dialogue, the slow music is menacing, and it shows how scary these things can be.

Who else is going back to the park this weekend?!
