Microsoft’s Xbox Drm One-Eighty

1

Microsoft revealed today that it was doing a complete 180 on its DRM and always online policies. This means no checking in with Microsoft’s servers every 24 hours and that you will be able play used games and borrowed games without restriction. This also means that you will be able to trade in your old games at places like GameStop and BestBuy. Also the system will be region free, meaning that import games will be playable on any system. This does a ton to help level the playing field between Microsoft and Sony when it comes to sales of their next generation consoles.  This is also a testament to Microsoft for being able to admit that they were wrong and actually listen to their customer base, you also have to think that $$$ has a lot to do with it. This announcement may have done a lot to help level the playing ground, but the PS4 is still $100 cheaper than the Xbox One. I’m just glad to see that fans of either console will get what they want when it comes to their decisions.

Let us know what you think about what these new developments mean by leaving your thoughts in the comments section.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Drops Mary Jane

1

Reports are coming through stating that Mary Jane Watson, lead girl in Peter Parker’s life for most of the years, played by Shailene Woodley (who?) in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has been removed from the film. This was a conscious choice done to probably include the character in the upcoming 2016/2018 movies that were just announced this week. Some of the early photos from the production of ASM2 included Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, played by Woodley and Emma Stone respectfully. This may come a bit of a surprise to most people, but with the sheer number of villains confirmed (Electro/Rhino), villain theories (Sinister Six: Venom, Green Goblin, Vulture), and the inclusion of Harry Osborn, this movie could have gotten out of hand without effort. Perhaps the removal of the character from this movie and into latter ones is a sign of great things to come.

“Of course I’m bummed,” said the actress. “But I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason….based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing (Mary Jane) until the next film.”

Marc Webb’s official statement on the issue is as follows, “I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”

How do you feel about Mary Jane not being in the first 2 Amazing Spider-man films? And do you think they’ll truly stick to the fate of Gwen Stacy as told years before?

Retail Price for PS4 Launch Games Revealed

0

Sony announced today that the price of their launch and launch window titles will be $59.99, so you won’t have to worry about the prices going up on the games at least for the time being. With Sony saying that the launch titles are $59.99, this may be their way of giving themselves wiggle room in the future although that is doubtful. They only way I could see this happening is if developers raise their prices. If that happened though, that would raise the price of games on the Xbox One as well. This also makes one wonder if Microsoft and Sony will keep the prices of their first party titles set in stone at $59.99 just in case this happens.

First Trailer of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

1

Part of the Marvel cartoon block on Disney XD, we’ve come to love their take on Ultimate Spider-man and are anxiously looking forward to Avengers Assemble! However, there is a third part of the trifecta we’ve only heard about. I’m talking about Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., the third cartoon to soon be airing on Disney XD. Premiering on August 11, Hulk and his crew of other “hulks” including Red Hulk, She-Hulk, Skaar (son of Hulk) and A-bomb venture into the world, fighting off threats only the strongest there is can face. From the trailer, the action seems to be apparent as Hulk and Hulks do what they do best, SMASH. Check out the trailer below and stay tuned as we follow the show up till its premiere, review and all.

Spider-man Films Confirmed for 2016 and 2018

2

Sony has announced today that they have schedule two more Spider-man films after Amazing 2. They’ve confirmed the dates as June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018. These dates are rather peculiar, because of the inconsistent release months of the prior entries. Amazing SM 1 was July, ASM2 is April, and these two add on June and May? I’m not sure actual goal of these dates, nor if cinema traffic will really get along with them, but there is now confirmation that Spider-man will be filling the silver screen for the next 5 years. If they’re continuation of Andrew Garfield’s character is unknown as well, as there  may be side stories, due to the press release stating these “fill in the stories of Peter Parker” and a Venom movie has always been something people have wanted. Read Sony’s press release below and predict where Spider-man’s stories can go in the comments.

Man of Steel Review

0

Yes, I know that this site is predominantly Marvel and that my argument that DC is subpar is very well known, but that doesn’t mean I won’t treat them fairly. So this weekend, I partook in an IMAX 2D screening of the Man of Steel movie that has just hit theaters and I have a few things to say about it, spoiler free.

First and foremost, this was not a bad movie. I had no preconceived notions that it would be horrible, but the trailers hadn’t really spurred any call to action within my bones. So I went in indifferent. In my honest opinion, this would rank above any pre-Superman film that I have seen, including Superman 1, 2, 3, 4, and Returns. It really outdid itself with building Krypton as an actual society, Zod as a true villain, and Kal-El as a conflicted hero. These are all things films need to succeed, and Man of Steel presented very strong arguments for all of them, making the story that much more enjoyable.

Imagery. This has never been stronger in a Superman film. The icon that he is and has been for years has been very noticeable, however the films failed to show that someone with such power and the restraint did not to become the imminent ruler of the world (See Injustice: Gods Among Us for that one) and use them for evil. At least they didn’t to me. Within the film, multiple flashback sequences occur, revealing the history of Clark Kent and the lessons he learned, which was definitely a breather from most origin stories we see today and the problem with many reboots (Example being Amazing Spider-man). From this, we can see right and wrong and the grey area between them as actions unfolded for the man who would become super. Even from one trailer, we learn that the S on his chest in not in fact an S, but the symbol for the house of El and represents Hope. Strong, strong imagery. Even things from the older movies, Zod’s outfit, become more apparent, with his crest and the Kryptonian suits. The film never failed to use one frame as a visual representation of Superman.

Emotion. This movie is a family film. A movie about family, even if there are multiple ones involved. The ghosts of his fathers, the unconditional love of mothers, and how they come to shape person he become. As Kal/Clark goes through his journeys in life, attempting to blend in and become just a figure in the night, the loneliness of his lifestyle, someone who could destroy the world and end lives upon a whim, becomes apparent. We feel for the confused boy who has to become a man in the film, and all the struggles he goes through. My screenwriting professor in college always encouraged us to “Put our characters through hell” and it will make for a better film, and for this reason, Superman succeeds as an emotional story. Through his hell, we become part of the journey, rooting for him to overcome the challenges stacked against his favor.

Consequence. This is where the film ultimately fails to encapsulate me. I was along for the ride the entire film, until I realized there was little or no consequences upon Metropolis. When Zod attempts to take over the Earth and Superman must use his might in retaliation, there was little to no feeling for the city and its denizens. Buildings were destroyed as if they were a LEGO town, asphalt dented and torn up with each blow, but you never see any wear upon our hero or his antagonist. This is where Marvel films have always gotten to me, to see our hero ultimately bruised and beaten to a point where he can’t possibly win. You see the people of the city caught in the middle of super hero battles and the villains have no remorse for them (Avengers/Iron Man/Spider-man 2). Man of Steel lacked that and ultimately prevented me from making the ultimate connection with the character and film. Perhaps this will be rectified in the inevitable sequel, but it was not apparent this weekend.

Visuals. Upon that note, I have never seen battles, mano y mano, that have ever felt so real. Faora, Zod, Kal-El, all of their blows were very apparent and felt. The Kryptonian’s power on our planet was very apparent as each blow felt so real. It was a real life interpretation of the fights in Injustice: Gods Among Us, as mentioned prior. The subjects were never truly harmed, but I cannot express how I could feel the hard hits and throws throughout the film. It is truly something to behold on an IMAX screen, rather than a tablet, phone, etc. Krypton has never felt so fully alive either. Zack Snyder and his creative team really made Kypton come alive in the movie, which I’ve never felt in any Superman movie before either. Yes, it was mostly computer generated, but it felt authentic. It was unique, beautiful, and mysterious at the same time. Their technology and way of life felt truly alien, but not too far fetched that no one could relate to the differences, something Green Lantern failed to do as well.

At the end of the day, this movie really is a huge step forward for the DC comic franchise on the big screen. My favorite character, Green Lantern, had his chance and it was blown. Batman has succeeded, but nothing as challenging as this. Reinventing the very first Superhero onto the silver screen has been done well, and Justice has been served. Heres to hoping we see a sequel that rights the wrongs of this film and takes the franchise to new heights. (so many Superman puns!)

John C. Reilly in Guardians of the Galaxy

1

Rumor mills spin lots of threads throughout the internet. The best part is when everything gets all confused and misinterpreted along the way. We have news that John C. Reilly of Step Brothers fame has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy. However, this is where everything got out of control. The first rumor, a while back before he was officially cast, is that he would play a human liaison between the Guardians and S.H.I.E.L.D. which wouldn’t be a stretch. A humorous role that would have to explain a talking raccoon and tree giant to the humans. I could see it. Today, Deadline posted that he would be Roman “The Accuser” Dey. Any familiar with the Inhumans or the cosmic universe in Marvel would recognizes Ronan the Accuser as someone who often interacts with the Inhumans and Thanos! He was even considered a ‘son’ of Thanos at one point, making Gamorra the adopted daughter of Thanos a great storyline twist. Ok, great. I see it, kind of. A grim kind of guy who swings around a large hammer is cool, maybe. But that is a lot of potential villains in a movie. Finally, Deadline updated their report and confirmed that Reilly is in fact Rhomann Dey, leader of the Nova Corps. Whew. That was close. We about got a lot crazier really fast. As Rhomann is leader of the Nova Corps makes sense due to Glenn Close being cast as another major Nova member as well. In all honesty, we don’t know what will happen until official word is given from the studio, filming commences, and set photos are leaked. If they’re anything like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we will have a metric boat load.

PHOTOS: Cap’s Uniform, Black Widow, and the Falcon’s Flight

We have some new pictures of Captain America’s uniform in real life! Not just the concept art anymore. We can see Chris Evans’ stunt double riding on a motorcycle (how typical, remember the the old Cap America movies??) wearing the new S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform. It doesn’t look too bad, really. But that’s me. Also we have some pictures of the Black Widow (ScarJo’s stunt double) fighting the Winter Soldier near a car. Lastly, we have some pictures of Anthony Mackie attached to a wire, and what appears to be ‘flying’ above the Winter Soldier. What we can expect is some CG trickery for wings, or a free fall.

Take a peek at the images below and let us know what you think of the upcoming movie!

Captain America: Set Photos Round 4 (Spoilerish?)

6

They apparently want people to see this movie being made. We have a metric ton of photos from the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie. See them HERE, HERE, and HERE.  Today, we get some photos of Anthony Mackie as the Falcon and he apparently has a jetpack? I’m assuming his wings come from there, since he flies and all…like a falcon. Included is our first appearance of Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow during what appears to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. Strike force take our heroes (Black Widow and Cap included) into custody! Whatever will America do without their covert agents who aren’t really that covert? Either way, I can’t wait to see this so called “political thriller” on the big screen next April. Until then, check out these pics and watch (another) slideshow!

I’ve included a close-up of the Falcon’s backpack and the STRIKE patch seen on sest.

Jamie Foxx’s Voice of Electro

1

Jamie Foxx was recently on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, something I’m not actively watching, but he was there none-the-less promoting the upcoming film White House Down. During the interview, Foxx was asked about his role in the upcoming Amazing Spider-man 2 and a few fun bits of information came out.

Max Dillon

First up was this picture of Foxx as Max Dillon, the guy who would become Electro. Notice the awesome nerdy/geeky style, apparently that was at request of Foxx himself. His sister is the hairstylist for the film, she also worked on Django Unchained as well with him. He  stated:
I want to be the first black man with a comb-over.
And thus, Max Dillon was born. Awesome!

Next up, Foxx mentioned the voice he would be using after the transformation into the villain we all know as Electro. Look at the video below, about 3/4 of the way through you can catch it.

What do you think of Foxx as Electro? I’m more than excited at this point.
