ComicUI’s Secrets of SHIELD – Part 1

0

Welcome to Level 7. We’re still watching Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. No joke, its only getting better and we feel its time to revisit those early episodes and give you the lowdown of how they relate to the bigger Marvel Universe.

In this series, we’ll be looking into Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD subtle references every week as they relate to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. We will be updating this as each episode airs and other instances come to light. Feel free to let us know if we miss any Secrets of SHIELD along the way, we’d love to have the most complete list available by the time the series hits home release.

**Please not these secrets may contain SPOILERS for the episodes. You have been warned.**

Tune in as we come back and release more of SHIELD’s secrets, but for now enjoy Part 1 – Episodes 1-5.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Episode 1

Episode 1 – “Pilot”

  1. First of all, we get Agent Maria Hill from the Avengers portrayed by Cobie Smulders, and the magnificent return of Agent Coulson. Theres also a throwaway line to Romanoff, the Black Widow as well.

  2. The Chitauri are mentioned again since their attempted invasion in the Avengers, you may remember them as the evil aliens in New York, especially with the Neural Link.

  3. Simmons calls the Bus their “journey into Mystery” which is a reference to the comic book series that SHIELD was first introduced in.

  4. During the episode, we also hear Skye state “With great power,” which we all know and associate with Spider-Man. Don’t get your hopes up as Sony owns the live-action rights to the hero and his rogue gallery.

  5. Project Pegasus is name dropped real quickly too. Pegasus is a secret area where SHIELD keeps their objects they want to study or don’t want to study. Usually in the desert, we’ve yet to see it on screen.

  6. Each of Fitz’s drones are named after the 7 dwarves from Snow White, another Disney property.

  7. Since SHIELD premiered so closely to the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray/DVD release, they also play up the Centipede soldiers as being powered with Extremis, the serum that gives people super powers in bursts…unless they burst first, and Super Soldier powers from Captain America.

  8. Lastly, the car Lola is a working model of Howard Stark’s flying car model from the Captain America movie. I’m happy to see that wasn’t a one off bit for the Stark tech.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Episode 2

Episode 2 – “0-8-4”

  1. This episode was relatively light on the references, but still had a few. Most notably, the Bus (airplane, whatever) has a call sign of SHIELD 616. This number is in references to Marvel’s 616 Universe, the mainstream universe we all know about. They number them to convey differences.

  2. It’s also worth nothing Coulson mentions his stab through the heart with a Chitauri weapon.

  3. Also, the last 0-8-4 SHIELD had was a hammer, alluding to Thor.

  4. They mention HYDRA, tesseract, Captain America and gamma radiation all in one go. Things that make Marvel’s universe go round.

  5. The Consultant is mentioned in this episode, which we all know to be Tony Stark. There was a Marvel One-Shot called the Consultant, which had Agent Coulson talk about how they got ‘the consultant’ to speak with General Ross in The Incredible Hulk. Glad to know they still treat him as a SHIELD consultant.

  6. Lastly, we get Samuel L. Jackson himself in the Bus as Nick Fury himself, giving Coulson a good berating.

marvel's agents of shield episode 3

Episode 3 – “The Asset”

  1. In this episode we’re introduced to Ian Hurt (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) as Franklin Hall who eventually turns into the villain Graviton. If you’re unfamiliar with the character, you can watch the the first few episodes of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on Netflix to understand the character and his powers.

  2. Gravitonium is ‘discovered’ in this episode, the thing that Graviton has power over. It is like introducing Adamantium and Vibranium in the universe as well.

  3. Melinda references Coulson dying, which is the big mystery for the show this season. I hope we uncover more of this as we go.

  4. Hall mentions the alien invasion that came about because a search for an infinite power source, the tesseract. So much blame in so many places!

  5. Coulson has a Captain America card collection, which we’ve been privy to in the Avengers film. We get another reference to that in this episode as well.

marvel's agents of shield episode 4

Episode 4 – “Eye Spy”

  1. This episode is rather dry on references as well but introduces something rather peculiar, the Skrull language. Introduced by Chris Eliopoulos during Marvel’s Secret Invasion in 2009, the letters are visible on the chalkboard during the episode. However, the letters do not make any sense and are pure jibberish. Since the Skrulls are assumed to be Fantastic Four property and we’ve only been introduced to the Chitauri (Ultimate Marvel’s Skrulls), perhaps this will turn up to be Chitauri language in the Marvel cinematic Universe. If you can see anything else on the chalkboard, let us know!

marvel's agents of shield episode 5

Episode 5 – “Girl in the Flower Dress”

  1. Chan Ho Yin is the young man who becomes Scorch in this episode. There are currently other Scorch heroes in the Marvel Universe, however none are the same character as this. This would be the closest version we’ll see to that character on screen, related only in name and nothing else.

  2. Raina brings up Steve Rogers, not known for his name but for being Captain America.

  3. As usual, Coulson refers to being killed. Perhaps they think we’ve forgotten?

  4. The Centipede organization returns this episode, while not existing in the Marvel comics, they do mention mixing the Extremis formula (Iron Man) with Gamma radiation (Hulk) to create super soldiers, like Dr. Irskine did in Captain America. That is some crazy cocktail of super hero powers.

  5. Lastly, Coulson uses the same lock exploding device that they first introduced in Iron Man (2008). I’m happy to see SHIELD hasn’t forgotten it’s humble Cinematic Origins.

New X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Teaser Footage

Fox has a tendency to release and tease the X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST film through social media channels more than anything. For the second time, we have footage released through Instagram before any official channel. In this new clip, we see Bishop firing a gun, Colossus going full metal mutant, and some really dramatic In a perilous economy free-credits-report.com is less like money. shots of people getting angry or scared. Watch the short clip below and hopefully we”ll get a full look at the footage soon!

Falcon Featured in Promotional CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Images

0

Marvel has released some new promotional images for the upcoming film, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. There wouldn’t be anything special about these except we get a great look at Anthony Mackie’s Falcon in the new film. He apparently has some sort of jet system on his wings for propulsion and I can tell they’re giving the character the detail and attention he deserves. Sam Wilson is a huge character in the Ultimate Marvel universe and they’ve modeled his character after that version, down to the wings. I can’t wait till he takes flight this April!

Slide through gallery below to check out all of the recent promotional images and let us know who are you most excited to see in Marvel’s upcoming Spring release!

Meet the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

0

Once you’ve seen all of the introductions, head to the bottom and vote for your favorite Guardian of the Galaxy! Don’t forget to watch the newest trailer as well!

First released is Rocket Raccoon, with a piece of dialogue by Bradley Cooper. We also get to see his attitude in the prison as well, claiming his…ahem…booty.

Secondly, Vin Diesel introduces us to Groot, the boldest character Marvel has ever attempted to bring to cinemas. Trees everywhere will glad to get some positive representation in the film.

Newly added, is Dave Bautista as Drax and we get to see him whip some ass behind the scenes. A physically intimidating being fueled by vengeance, Drax will be a force to be seen on screen.

Zoe Saldana is no stranger to being different colored, but meet her as the deadly green assassin, Gamora, in the upcoming movie. It ain’t easy being green.

Lastly, we have Chris Pratt as the ever humorous Peter Quill aka Star-Lord. Check out the latest non-super hero from Marvel as he prepares to win over our hearts and souls.

James Gunn Breaks down the GUARDIANS Trailer

0

James Gunn, director of the upcoming GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film, sat down with Total Film to break down the newly released trailer and explain his inspiration behind the film. Read on below each image to see what Gunn has to say about the trailer and the characters involved.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY STAR LORD
“There is probably no film that influenced me more as a child – no film that excited me more or that I loved more – than Raiders Of The Lost Ark. It not only influences how I see Guardians, it influences how I live my life.”

guardians of the galaxy rocket raccon
“We’ve recorded most of Bradley’s dialogue already. I suppose you would expect me to tell you he’s fantastic and his characterization of Rocket will blow your mind – so don’t believe me and just wait to see (or hear) it for yourself. In all truth, we hired Bradley because he’s able to do both comedy and drama – it’s the thing I look for most in the actors on all my films – and to truly sell Rocket – for you to believe a Raccoon can talk (and blow up and shoot tons of stuff) we need a well-rounded actor.”

 guardians of the galaxy groot
“I love Groot so much I get teary eyed when I think of him sometimes. Essentially, all the Guardians start out the movie as bastards – except Groot. He’s an innocent. He’s a hundred percent deadly and a hundred percent sweet. He’s caught up in Rocket’s life, really.”

 guardians of the galaxy gamora
“Zoe is about as un-intimidating as you can imagine! She gets in the zone the moment that cameras start filming – but before that she’s basically her loud, brash, completely lovable and goofball self. She got it easy with the makeup – it only took about four hours to put on, whereas it took Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan six hours or more. Zoe and Karen are the two most hardass characters in the movie – they’re our Clint Eastwoods. It should take more than a few people by surprise.”

guardians of the galaxy star lord
“The movie has a lot of edgy humour, unusual for a comic book movie. But we were encouraged by Marvel to take risks, so we did. However, we never wanted the humor to get in the way of the fun or the emotional heart of the film – those things came first.”

 guardians of the galaxy walkman
“‘Hooked On A Feeling’ is used in the movie. That and a lot of other old songs are on Quill’s mixed tape in his Sony Walkman. It’s one of the few things he has from Earth. I don’t think of it as a joke, because it’s very dear to him. It’s the umbilical cord that connects him to earth and the home and family he lost.”

 guardians of the galaxy prison
“The Guardians are criminals, essentially – a thief, two thugs, a murderer, and a maniac. They end up in prison together. When you have those personalities all in one place at one time, you can imagine a scrap or two starting pretty easily.”

 guardians of the galaxy necrocraft
At that point in the film, Star-Lord and the gang are facing off with a fleet of Ronan’s Necrocraft. Someone’s about to go down.”

 guardians of the galaxy nebula
“I knew I wanted to add some shots of Nebula, as she’s super badass.”

guardians of the galaxy the collector
“It’s important to add that we left out some of our coolest characters – Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker’s Yondu, and Glenn Close’s Nova Prime – because we want to save them for the full trailer in a couple months.”

guardians of the galaxy groot rocket raccoon
“There is no doubt that the cinematic pinnacle of my career is our cameras circling around a maniacal raccoon shooting a machine gun on the back of a living tree. And I say this with as much modesty as I can muster – because certainly it is not me, but the hand of God guiding us all as we make this film – but it just may be the pinnacle of cinema in general. When we shot it we were twirling around an empty space in a giant set. But I think all of us could see the raccoon and the tree in our minds. They were already starting to form. I can’t wait to share them with everyone in August.”
