Plugs

CHRIS PINE for DC’s WONDER WOMAN

0

DC and Warner Bros. are trying to get WONDER WOMAN off the ground. After losing the first director, they’ve tapped Patty Jenkins (previously worked on Thor: The Dark World before departing) to help the movie and are looking to increase the cast. With Gal Gadot as the lead character, they’re looking to add Chris Pine to the mix as Steve Trevor, a love interest and government official from the comics.

Pine is known for his Star Trek film franchise and would add a leading man to the film who is known and probably considered good looking. I can’t speak much from that angle, but whatever works! With the film releasing in 2017, they need to add to the cast and get into production, as we all know DC/WB take years to film something and finally release it.

We’ll report more on this as information comes to light!

Tilda Swinton for DOCTOR STRANGE

0

The latest news for DOCTOR STRANGE is that Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer) is in talks to play The Ancient One. In Marvel’s comic universe, the Ancient One is the person who takes in Stephen Strange and teaches him the ways of the mystic arts.

Generally, this is character is an older, Asian descendent with the typical style of what you’d imagine a master of ancient arts to look like. With this rumor of Swinton being courted for the role, they may be looking to change that up. Previous rumors indicated Morgan Freeman, Billy Nighy, and Ken Watanabe were in talks to play the role.

My guess is that Swinton would be a great Morgana Le Fey, another female mystic who tends to clash with the Sorcerer Supreme. She was also in the 1978 Movie/TV Pilot that never went anywhere, played by none other than Jessica Walters (Arrested Development, Archer).

Either way, an interesting choice and a great person to cast in Marvel’s stable. Hopefully they can hold onto her for more than just a single movie. Thoughts and speculation?

Superhero Slate Podcast – Episode 19 – Will Summer Suck?

0

It has been a slow few weeks on the news front. We’ve tried to do what we can to fill the gaps, but instead I’m going to offer you something new and weekly.

The Superhero Slate podcast is something I release weekly with Mike Royer of Pickled Comics. You may remember us from such great collaborations as “The History of Marvel Studios” and now you can listen to us host our very own show. We cover a lot of small topics, rumors, and even give our great opinions (that later turn out to be facts). Currently, there are over 20 hours of episodes to listen to, even one Spoilercast where we go into great detail on Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Well, from here on out, I’ll be sharing the Superhero Slate podcast embeds here and you can even subscribe yourself via iTunes, YouTube, SoundCloud and more!

TV Roundup for 2015-2016

0

The news has been extremely light this week for all comic book fans, unless you’re into their television series! Arrow wrapped up its third season, Agents of SHIELD finished strong for season 2 and a bunch more were confirmed for next year.

C2E2: ComicUI Exclusive Interview with Jonathan Hickman

0

This year’s C2E2 we did a lot of audio and video interviews. During the 3 show days, our first interview was with one of our favorite authors, Jonathan Hickman. Many know him for his Marvel work (which we here at ComicUI rave about): Ultimate Comics Ultimates, Secret Warriors, Fantastic Four, Avengers, New Avengers, and currently Secret Wars. His other work includes critically acclaimed titles such as The Manhattan Projects, East of West, and God is Dead.

If you’re familiar with Hickman’s work, you’ll know that nothing is by accident and dichotomies don’t exist in his work. The best parts are how he can turn villains into sympathetic characters. Such as Reed Richards in the Ultimate Universe when he becomes the Maker, or Dr. Doom anytime he’s written him. He even leaves subtle hints of things to come in his books, so reading them all in order pays off huge. His work is so influential, a lot of it is being adapted into Agents of SHIELD, such as leviathan, Daniel Whitehall, and Daisy Johnson/Quake/Skye.

Needless to say, we’re impressed by his mountain of work and are even more humbled to have been given a chance to interview him. The following video has full audio components but is missing some dropped frames. The best experience is to listen to the interview, but the video will pick back up later on.

First CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Synopsis Released

0

In less than a year, we’ll be watching and talking about CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, which is almost setup perfectly after AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ends. Since production started two weeks ago, Marvel has released the first official synopsis for the film and a list of characters who will be making an appearance, making the cast larger than Age of Ultron’s! 11 total superheroes, not including villains will show up. Thats a ton!

A couple interesting things to note is that Paul Rudd will return as Ant-Man in Civil War alongside the heroes. Will this be covered in his solo movie coming out in July? We hope so! Perhaps Giant Man will finally make an appearance. Secondly, William Hurt will be returning as General Thunderbolt Ross! This is probably the most surprising, as any actors from The Incredible Hulk have only been referenced or replaced, so its great to see that continuity.

Who are you most excited to see fight next year? I’m gonna say Iron Man vs Vision, if possible. We’ll be posting more on Civil War as the production commences, so until then, here’s your synopsis!

[alert]

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Community”) from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The Winter Solider,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”). The film returns Chris Evans (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron”) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 3”) as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as The Vision, Jeremy Renner (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “The Avengers”) as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Godzilla”) as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man,” ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in “Captain America: Civil War.”

The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman (“42,” “Get on Up”) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Revenge”) as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Bourne Ultimatum”), Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Warrior”) as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt (“A History of Violence,” Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk”) as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”).

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

SUICIDE SQUAD Assemble!

0

The first image of the full Task Force X from the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD movie from David Ayer has been released. We get to see all the characters announced, plus several new surprises. Despite the recent Joker image that caused quite a stir (and is most likely just an homage image), these outfits for the characters seem pretty alright by our standards.

Pictured from left to right are: Adam Beach (Cowboys & Aliens) as Slipknot, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Will Smith (Men In Black) as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World) as Killer Croc, and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as El Diablo.

I think Enchantress and Killer Croc have the most unique looks, while the rest aren’t bad. Its funny that Katana makes an appearance in the film, as she’s also making her debut in Arrow this week too. What do YOU think of the cast?

SUICIDE SQUAD arrives in theaters August 5, 2016 and will be the third movie in the DC Cinematic Universe.
