JESSICA JONES Teaser

0
MARVEL'S JESSICA JONES

The first teaser and release date for Marvel’s JESSICA JONES has landed. This November 20, you can tune exclusively into Netflix and catch all 13 episodes of JESSICA JONES, the follow up to the ever popular DAREDEVIL series, which will kick off a new extended universe for Marvel’s properties.

JESSICA JONES is based on the comic Alias, where she has given up being a superhero to focus on being a private detective. Starring Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Mike Colter, Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, and more, we’ll see JESSICA JONES change the Marvel cinematic universe in an entirely new way.

Its time the world knew her name.

LUKE CAGE Casting Updates

0

Marvel’s LUKE CAGE series for Netflix is getting ready to kick off production and they’re announcing casting choices left and right. We have previously reported that Cheo Hodari Coker is the show runner for the series with Mike Colter set to star as the titular hero (but first appearing in Jessica Jones).

On the side, we’ve also gotten wind of Alfre Woodard as a character called Minetta, with Rosario Dawson carrying over as Clare Temple (Night Nurse) from her Daredevil days.

Now we have a LOT more characters joining LUKE CAGE and we’re going to run through the latest announcements.

1. MISTY KNIGHT portrayed by Simone Missick

2. ALVAREZ/SHADES played by Theo Rossi

The first two announcements give us one main Luke Cage character and one not so much. Misty Knight is part of the Heroes For Hire era Luke Cage, an afro-weilding, robotic arm powerhouse of a woman who I hope is a friendly force for Cage. As for Alvarez, that is a little less known but is a villain in the comics. Wildcard, bitches!

3. Mahershala Ali as COTTONMOUTH

4. DETECTIVE SCARFE by Frank Whaley (pictured)

Cottonmouth will be a big villain in the series, however he is not the main antagonist. That will go to Diamondback, which leads me to believe some sort of Serpent Society may show up over the season. All these snake names. Detective Scarfe is the newest cast member and will play a “hard nosed detective” in the series.

5. Diamondback – not cast

6. Reva Connors – not cast

Diamondback will be the main villain for the series. Expect a big name cast for this. Reva Connors will play a love interest for Cage, so prepare for Jessica Jones to kick her ass!

While the show is still a year out, expect to hear more as production and casting finalize at the end of this year!

[SPOILERS] CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Sides Revealed

0

The next movie in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is the first of Phase 3. A sequel of both Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we’ll find our heroes fighting themselves this coming May.

With a title like Civil War, we’ve always known that good guys will be squaring off against other good guys in a fight to see who is goodest. Is anyone really the winner in that situation? We, the viewers are. The teases so far have been that Captain America and Iron Man will finally let all their frustrations out on each other over a Superhuman Registration act, much like the comic the film takes its name from.

But where would allegiances lie come brawl time is the question everyone wants answered and thanks to an exclusive to CBM, we now know. Some concept art released by them shows the teams and it lines up with everything else we’ve heard over the year.  If anything, its a new look at Black Panther at least

Before you jump on and look, let us know which side you’re rooting for and if anyone happens to be on the wrong one. FIGHT!

Anything below this line is considered SPOILERS for those who don’t wanna know, but this concept art kicks major ass.

The teams are as follows:

Red: Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, Black Widow, and Black Panther

Blue: Captain America, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Hawkeye, Agent 13, and Ant-Man

MIA: Scarlet Witch, Hulk, Thor, Nick Fury, and Maria Hill

KIA (assumed): Phil Coulson

Alfre Woodard cast in LUKE CAGE

0

Marvel is proceeding with more casting for their Netflix Original Series, LUKE CAGE. Presumably airing fall of 2016, the series has now added actress Alfre Woodard in the role of Minetta, a powerful local politician who carries a big role in Luke Cage’s life.

Deadline is reporting that Woodard’s “Minetta” could actually be a cover for Luke Cage’s main Marvel Comics adversary, Black Mariah. In the comics, Black Mariah was a crime lord and drug dealer.

At this time, we have Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Cheo Hedari Coker as show runner for the third Marvel and Netflix series.

Stay tuned as we update you with more LUKE CAGE news!

FANTASTIC FOUR Review

0

The FANTASTIC FOUR is a film that falls short of a mind blowing journey of science and exploration despite its best intentions. Ignoring all production rumors and hearsay, Fox has a safe movie on its hands and while that may not be utterly horrible, I can’t say this film is anything I’ll remember by next week. It starts off as a good representation of the Ultimate Fantastic Four comic books and has some higher level ideas than the two previous attempts. However, this fantastic voyage suffers from a weak villain and finishes quicker than any teenage boy watching this for Kate Mara. In the end, FANTASTIC FOUR is a film that I can’t recommend anyone watch in cinemas, but is the most tolerable movie I’ve yet to see with Miles Teller as an actor. Save your time and money for something else this summer and cross your fingers that Marvel gets their family back sooner than later.

The following review contains minor SPOILERS for the film. Although they may not be large, please be cautious when reading below.

To best break down the newest FANTASTIC FOUR movie, I’ve decided to give you a compliment ‘Big Mac’ rather than a plain old sandwich only because there are tons of layers and not all of them are good for you. First up, I’ll compliment the film for being something more than just scientists in space. Although this may have been their origin in the 60’s, it doesn’t translate well (i.e. Fantastic Four 2005). So by using the Ultimate Fantastic Four, the studio is already a step in the right direction and that should excite anyone, right?!

Wrong. This movie has some of the worst character motivations in the history of superhero films. EVER. This is saying a lot as we now have tons of superhero movies in the past 10 years, some we’d like to forget just as quickly. But in this golden age of the superhero cinema, we have this blemish that is only smearing itself all over the trophy case, rather than being displayed proudly inside with the others. Just listen to the dialog in the film. It is the most juvenile, non-inspiring, laughable mess of a script that could ever be devised. Honestly, improvisation on the spot could and would have been better than this.

The strongest instance of this weak character dilemma is definitely Doctor Doom. Abolishing all rumors that he would be Victor Domashev, he starts with the surname Von Doom and seems to be anything but. From the moment he arrives and his last scene in the film, it becomes apparent that no screenwriter will ever be able to translate a comic book accurate version of Doctor Doom to the big screen. Not that any different version of a villain or character is wrong, its that he comes off as a jealous, petty rival to Reed Richards and falls short of the greatness he could achieve as the best foil to any superhero group. For this, I hang my head in shame. (Side note, his powers are mind boggling as well. He goes from telepathy and kinesis that can headshot people at close range, but then can only throw rocks in another dimension? Weak sauce.)

Another weak point in the film occurs as the story progresses and attempts to show how Marvel’s First Family came to be. The Human Torch and Invisible Woman being adopted siblings works, its the relationship of Reed and Ben Grimm that confuses the most. This all occurs due to a 1 year jump in the film’s story. Characters are now military operatives, others are still learning their abilities, and Reed Richards is nowhere to be found. While a montage could alleviate this sudden gap, there was probably no easier way to show the characters with abilities later on.

Which bring me to the last bad point of the film, in which it is over too soon. By the time the Fantastic Four get their powers and are becoming used to them, the film is over. The pacing of the film in the first two acts is great! Phenomenal even, but when the third one hits…the credits are rolling. This is no compliment either, as the main conflict is over and done after just a few seconds. It makes the movie’s climactic moments feel rushed and lazy, neither are what we asked for.

The third act also relies heavily on stunts that come from Marvel’s two largest films, Avengers and Age of Ultron. Theres a large portal in the sky to another, foreign place full of death and destruction, while also leaving a huge crater in a mountainous area covered in forest. It goes so far as to even steal the Age of Ultron finale by NOT saying 95% of a sentence leading up to the team’s name, but cutting black before hand. Unoriginal on all accounts.

To close out the FANTASTIC FOUR, I have to applaud the film for taking a different approach to the story, in the fact it is almost a horror film. The foreign world attacking the characters, the bodily ‘mutations’ that affect everyone in different ways, and just the general pacing. This could very well be The Fly but with superhero abilities instead, but seems to be bogged down by the above layers. The best part of the film is nearly destroyed by Doom himself.

In the end, FANTASTIC FOUR isn’t the worst to me, but it also falls very short of being great. This doesn’t deserve a second watch in theaters, nor a sequel if at all possible. I left the theater feeling neutral about the film and have since found more negative vibes than initially thought. This doesn’t signal a downward trend for superhero films either, but rather an instance where a studio, despite repeat attempts, does not understand the property at hand and should ultimately hand it back to the rightful owners, Marvel Studios, before anyone else gets hurt.

Rating – 2/5

An Unfantastic Voyage by all accounts

8 DEADPOOL Trailer Secrets

0

With every new trailer, we pick apart and analyze all that we can. Not to ruin the film, but to see what else we can glean from these teases of the movie. With DEADPOOL existing in the Fox X-Men universe, we find it particularly appropriate to see where its going as this seems to be the first X-Men movie not set before the year 2000 in a long time.

If we’ve left anything out or want to add more to this, please feel free to let us know!

1. CANCER!

Thats right, Wade Wilson has cancer in the comics and his healing factor is what keeps him going, but also gives him that ugly mug. Both of these seem to be big points in the film, one to mess up his normal life with Morena Baccarin but also a device to help TJ Miller mix up crazy things!

2. Green Lantern

While being carted away, there’s a comment about not making the super suit green or animated. Well, we all know the last superhero Reynolds played was DC’s Green Lantern, something we’re not going to discuss here but definitely something disgusting. You may get that? Either way, jab jab jab!

3. Shooping on the Bridge

The leaked footage from a while back is almost the entire reason this film is getting made. Positive reactions gave the studio enough faith that they pushed forward. It seems we’re going to get almost an exact recreation of the scene on the bridge where he drops into the car. The edits make it seem shorter, but I’m feeling it’ll be shot for shot. Instead of Stefani’s Holdback Girl, we get Salt n Peppa’s Shoop, with a shotgun bang!

4. Humor and the Fourth Wall

Depending on which trailer you watch today, the Green Band version has a part where Deadpool looks into the camera and talks to the audience, right after he stops a bunch of mercenaries from shooting him with some obscure lines that catch everyone off guard. Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall and it seems the film will be no exception.

5. Healing Factor

Looks like our boy DP gets shot up and he watches a bad guy drive away on a motorcycle though a hole in his arm. He has almost the same regeneration abilities as Wolverine, so we should expect this to heal right up.

6. Spider-Man?

The titles say “With Great Power, Comes Great Irresponsibility” which is a play off of Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben quote, with great power comes great responsibility. Don’t get confused, they’re not in the same movie universes, but thats some clever wordplay.

7. X-Men: Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead

Colossus!? The first official, big name X-Men appears in trailer, telling us he’ll be a part of the movie. Also, a goth looking girl called Negasonic Teenage Warhead appears as well. Quite the mouthful, eh? She’s named after the song by Monster Magnet and has limited telepathy with the ability to see a little bit into the future. She’s probably the film’s macguffin.

8. Fabian Nicieza

In the leaked footage from SDCC, Rob Liefeld (artist/creator) of Deadpool and Stan Lee make cameos. Although they’re removed from this version, a few street signs show off Fabian Nicieza, the scripture and co-creator of Deadpool. I can’t take credit for this one, the street signs were the least interesting part about the trailer. Kudos to ComicBook.com!

DEADPOOL Official Trailer

0

The first official trailer for Fox’s DEADPOOL movie has landed and we’re getting 2 versions! It must be our birthday over here (its not) to get so many goodies one week.

First up, is the Red Band trailer that is for ADULTS only. This shows that the movie is going to be R and probably not suitable for kids. Its a sizzle reel a lot like the SDCC leaked footage but removes a few parts for the better. This is the video you want to watch to get hyped for DEADPOOL coming to the movies.

Secondly, is a green band trailer for those not old enough to watch R rated things. This will most likely be shown before all FANTASTIC FOUR screenings starting tomorrow. Its actually not bad either and gives us some new clips, while maintaining the humor.

Who is excited to see their favorite Merc with a Mouth appear in a justifiable movie? I can’t say he’s my favorite, but at least it looks comic book faithful…and that costume! This will be fun, see you February 12 next year!

The summer is winding down, which means Fall TV season is about to jump off in the next few months! We couldn’t be more excited about Marvel’s AGENTS OF SHIELD and AGENT CARTER returning for more MCU adventures.

To help remind you what has happened in the previous seasons of the show, Marvel has released two videos recapping things you may have forgotten. With Agent Carter finishing up in February/March, it is definitely a much needed refresher course, as the physical releases won’t be here till early September.

Season 3 of SHIELD is currently in production, and with them teasing Secret Warriors for this coming season, needless tons ay our hype is at an all time high.

We know a lot of people have gotten back on board AGENTS OF SHIELD after the last season kicked it up a notch (BAM!) so if you’re needing a small fix to get you through, enjoy these videos!
