It is hard to believe that 2021 is half over, and we’re still not back into theaters fully to experience Super Hero or comic book based movies. Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, whether you like it or not, we’ve yet to have a large tentpole film to take us away from the world’s current state. With the rollout of the global vaccine, movies are starting to make a come back (albeit with an at-home option for some), and here’s what you can look forward to the rest of the year!

1Black Widow – July 9, 2021

Black Widow 2021

The MCU returns with BLACK WIDOW, which appears to be a prequel to Avengers Endgame, but tell the story of Natasha Romanoff and her upbringing in the Red Room program. Introducing Yelena Belova, the Red Guardian, and Taskmaster to the universe at large, this film looks to kick off the official return to cinema. Black Widow is also available on Disney+ Premier Access.

2The Suicide Squad – August 6, 2021

The Suicide Squad 2021A soft reboot slash sequel to Suicide Squad, features James Gunn’s first foray into the DC Extended Universe. With some carry over from the original film (Harley Quinn, Rick Flagg, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang), The Suicide Squad goes a little wilder with its list of characters such as Bloodsport, Polkadot Man, Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, Weasel, The Thinker, and the Sylvester Stallone voiced Nanaue (King Shark). You can also catch The Suicide Squad with your HBO Max subscription.

3Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – September 3, 2021

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2021Shang-Chi is the fourth MCU character to get an origin film without any previous acknowledgement in any other movie. With a title that covers the origins of Iron Man himself, the latest trailer features arm-band sized rings and connections to the Marvel world at large (Abomination and Wong). Expect a visual treat that explores the Eastern culture, as well as gives us the martial arts scenes we deserve in a comic book movie.

4Venom: Let There Be Carnage – September 24, 2021

Venom: Let There Be Carnage 2021Delayed from 2020, the sequel to the popular Venom movie will be making its way into theaters this Fall. Introducing Kletus Cassady to Eddie Brock, expect to see more alien symbiote action on a visceral level. Did we also spy Shriek in the trailer? Directed by Andy Serkis (Black Panther), this is shaping up to be a sequel that out does the original film.

5Eternals – November 5, 2021

Marvel's Eternals 2021Marvel’s latest cosmic offering introduces us to the numerous Eternals, long living powered beings that have been on Earth since almost the dawn of time. With direct connections to the Celestials, expect Ikaris, Sersei, Thena, and more to fight against their devilish relatives, the Deviants throughout the film. With more main cast members than ever before, this movie has a lot to prove and thousands of years to explore in the MCU.

6Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17, 2021

Spider-Man No Way Home 2021We have seen the least, but probably know the most about the upcoming Spider-Man trilogy outing. With rumors that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be reprising their roles in a dimension-hopping story, hopes are higher than ever that this film will go all out on spectacle and surprises. Rumored villains to return include Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, and more (spoilers)! Our hope is the multiverse is used to its full extent and they pull no punches this time around.
