As pre-production on the Man of Steel sequel picks up and we got a surprise casting announcement, the studio is making decisions much faster than I’ve ever seen. WB and Snyder have decided to forgo Vancouver as the film’s location of principal photography and have instead replaced it with Detroit, Michigan. This comes from the Michigan Film Office and Snyder himself.
“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” says Snyder. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”
Now, before you start talking about the bad reputation Detroit Rock City has gained over the years, its important to note that this production comes after the state was in active talks to remove the tax incentives filmmakers would get for bringing their production there. Another interesting fact is that the city has declared bankruptcy as well, so this production could inject a ton of life into the city, where half of ComicUI is located. We’re crossing our fingers to get some hands on footage of the production when it ramps up next year.
Stay tuned as we bring more updates on the Yet-to-be-named Sequel to Man of Steel, which I enjoyed earlier this year.
